Selecting Representations with Selection Filters and Selection Modes

You can use selection filters or selection modes to ease your selection in an assembly with multiple representations.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Open an existing assembly consisting of products, 3D parts and representations.

Use a Selection Filter to Select Representations Only

With this filter, only the representations are selectable. The state of this filter is persistent when you switch to another app within the product structure workshop or when you exit and then reopen the app.

  1. From the View section of the action bar, click Representations Selection to activate the selection filter.
  2. Select an object within a representation.
    The whole representation is selected.
  3. To deactivate this selection filter, click Representations Selection .

Use a Selection Filter to Avoid Selection of 3D Shapes

With this filter, 3D shapes are not selectable. You can only select the data inside or outside the 3D shape, but not the 3D shape node in the tree.

  1. From the View section of the action bar, click 3D Shape Not Selectable to activate the selection filter.
  2. Click different objects in the assembly.
    3D shapes are not selected.
  3. To deactivate this selection filter, click 3D Shape Not Selectable .
