In the default mode:

  • The work instructions have no specify time; only their parent operations have a specific time.
  • If you open the parent process in a Gantt chart, you do not see the work instructions. You only see their parent operations.

In the time-setting mode:

  • You can specify a time for each work instruction.
  • When you open the parent process in the Gantt chart, the work instructions comprise part of the chart.

  • Simulations and system verification take into account the times for the work instructions.

You can specify the Time Mode to Work Instruction for either:

  • A specific parent operation (by selecting Work Instruction in the parent operation's Properties dialog box).
  • All parent operations under which you create work instructions when you are in a Work Instructions session.
Note: First enable Set Time Mode on parent operation to Work Instruction Time in Me > Preferences > Manufacturing Planning > Work Instructions.

In the latter case, the change in Time Modeoccurs when you create a work instruction. If you have previously created work instructions underneath the operation, you are prompted before the operation's Time Mode is changed. If you are creating work instructions beneath the operation for the first time, the shift is automatic.
