Applying Restraints to Your Design

You can constrain faces in your design, identifying these items in the design as the supporting geometry when loads are applied.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: You need to build your initial geometry then use Design Guidance to simulate loads and restraints on the geometry to complete your design.

Add Clamps

You can add fixed constraints to faces.

  1. From the Design Guidance section of the action bar, click Clamp .

Tip: In the dialog box, you can switch between Clamp and Fixture.

  2. Select the faces to restrain in the geometry.
  3. Click .

Add Fixtures

You can add slider or planar restraints to faces.

  1. From the Design Guidance section of the action bar, click Fixture .

Tip: In the dialog box, you can switch between Clamp and Fixture.

  2. Select the faces to restrain in the geometry.
  3. In the Restraint Direction section of the dialog box, select one of the following radio buttons:
    • Normal to face at center. The direction is assumed to be normal to the face you selected.
