Viewing the Design Guidance Result

You can use the options on the Design Guidance dialog box to evaluate the new or redesigned resulting shape in different ways.

Before you begin: Create an initial geometry and apply the required loads and restraints to it. Use Design Guidance feature to generate a shape based on your weight, granularity, volume, and symmetry selections. See Creating Profiles From Design Guidance Shapes.
  1. In the Design Guidance dialog box, click Results.
  2. Optional: Drag the Add/Remove Material slider to increase or decrease the mass of the generated shape. The slider displays the specific mass in grams. This mass range is initially set in the Target Mass Reduction slider on the Settings tab before the model generation.
  3. From the Results Display list, alter how the generated shape is displayed with the following options:
    OptionDescription
Show full model Displays the full shape of the model including the symmetry regions that remain invisible during the model generation. This option is available only if you have Symmetry options specified.
Show granular results Displays the generated shape in a granular view. You can specify the granularity level from the Settings tab before the model generation.
Increase surface smoothing Displays the generated shape after applying additional smoothing. The Increase surface smoothing option is on by default.
Switch to mesh display Displays the generated shape as a wire or net display.
Show contact with boundaries Displays the contact areas where the generated shape contacts the design volume boundary. This option is available only in the New Design tool. To improve the visibility of any contact, select Show granular results option.
Inspect details Provides the following ways to view the generated shape.
    • Highlight slice. Displays slices of the generated shape along the plane. Drag the Robot arrows to view the horizontal and vertical planes.
    • Highlight region. Displays regions of the generated shape. Drag the Robot handles to size the regions. Drag the Robot arrow to view the different regions.
Shape Transparency Drag the slider to increase or decrease transparency of the generated shape. The Shape Transparency option is not available when the Switch to mesh display option is selected.
  4. Click .
The Design Guidance dialog box closes keeping the generated shape visible.

Note: You can save the resulting shape on your local drive in the form of an .STL file. From the Tools section of action bar, click Print 3D. In the Print 3D dialog box, select the shape and click Export to STL. The .STL file is saved in the default download path of your browser.
