Editing Cameras

You can modify camera properties in your Experience.

This task shows you how to:

General information about camera adjustments.

Context:

As soon as you navigate, the properties of the viewport camera are displayed in the Camera Properties panel. To display the camera properties of the scene, click the scene thumbnail to have the viewport adopt the settings from the scene.

Edit Camera Properties

You can edit the properties of the viewport camera in the Properties panel.

  1. Optional: If the Properties panel is not already open, click Camera in the action bar.
    The Camera Properties are displayed in the panel on the right side of the viewport.
  2. To edit the Camera Properties, do one of the following:

Scene Update from Viewport Camera

You can apply the camera properties of the viewport to the currently active scene.

  1. Navigate in the viewport until you have a preferred camera angle that you want to use as viewpoint for the scene.
  2. Optional: Adjust further settings, like Focus in the Camera Properties panel
  3. In the upper-right corner of the viewport, click Apply camera view to Scene .

    Tip: You can also click Update Scene after opening the Render Export dialog box.

    The properties of the scene camera are updated with the values from the Camera Properties panel, which reflects in the perspective of the viewport changing.

Show Scene Camera Properties

You can display the properties of the active scene camera in the viewport and in the Camera Properties panel.

In the Scenes panel click the thumbnail of the corresponding scene, even if it is already the active one.
The perspective in the viewport switches to the specified scene camera properties and the properties panel shows the settings of the scene camera. The Apply camera view to Scene icon is disabled as the viewport and the scene camera are aligned.

Specify the Aspect Ratio for Scene Cameras

You can specify the aspect ratio for the camera.

Context:

The specified aspect ratio is automatically used for your scene, and for the rendered media output.

  1. From the action bar, click Camera .
    The Camera Properties panel appears.
  2. Go to the Format section.
  3. To specify the Aspect Ratio, you can do the following:
    • Select one of the existing presets.
    • Enter the values for your desired aspect ratio into the entry fields.
    If you entered the values for the aspect ratio manually, it is indicated as "Custom". If one of the existing aspect ratio presets is selected, the corresponding values are displayed in the two entry fields.
    Note: Changes of the aspect ratio affect the target resolution in the render export.

    The specified aspect ratio becomes visible in the current scene, indicated by a white frame that is called "resolution gate". The resolution gate is always aligned to the center of the scene's camera perspective.

  4. In the upper-right corner of the viewport, click Apply camera view to Scene .
    The properties of the scene camera are updated with the values from the Camera Properties panel resp. with the perspective of the viewport.

Specify Depth of Field for the Scene Camera

You can activate a depth of field effect for the camera.

Context:

The specified focus settings are automatically used for your scene, and for the rendered media output.

  1. From the action bar, click Camera .
    The Camera Properties panel appears.
  2. Enable the Focus section.
  3. From the action bar open Live Preview Rendering to see the depth of field effect.
  4. To define the focus point, in the Camera Properties either
    • click Auto to set the focus point to the center of the viewport, or
    • click Pick and select a point on the surface of a model in the scene to specify the position of the focus point. In addition, you can adjust the focus distance manually.

  5. Adjust the Blur value.
  6. In the upper-right corner of the viewport, click Apply camera view to Scene .
    The properties of the scene camera are updated with the values from the Camera Properties panel resp. with the perspective of the viewport.
