About Locked Products

You can lock a product as a reference, which locks the product where ever it is used. You can also select instances in a product to lock while keeping other instances unlocked.

After you lock a product reference, other users cannot edit its properties, change its ownership or maturity state, add or remove objects (including specifications and documents), revise, delete, replace, or specify a configuration context. However, they can duplicate the reference and copy/paste it.

After you lock a product instance, the relationship between the instance and its parent is locked. Other users cannot modify the relationship, cut/paste the instance, or delete it. However, they can change its lifecycle state and its owner. Other users can also specify its configuration context, copy/paste it, and duplicate it. An error occurs if you try to lock a product that another person has already locked.
