Exporting Content

You can export your current model to work on your design in other apps.

Important: You must publish and then save your geometries before exporting your content.

Publishing geometries is required if you want to visualize or reuse your content in another context.

  1. From the Standard section of the action bar, click Export .

Important: If your design is not saved, a dialog box appears to let you save your model.

    The Export dialog box appears.
  2. From the File Format list, select one of the following formats:
    OptionDescription
    SLDXML

Exports the model data in SOLIDWORKS XML (*.sldxml) format.

    3DXML

Exports the model data in 3DXML (*.3dxml) format.

    3MF

Exports the model data in 3MF (*.3mf) format. This 3D Manufacturing Format (3MF) is a 3D printing format that allows full-fidelity 3D.

    IGS

Exports the model data in IGES (*.igs) format.

    STEP

Exports the model data in STEP (*.step) format.

The STEP export option provides two export formats:

    • AP203 - This file type does not manage colors and layers.
    • AP214 has everything an AP203 file includes plus, colors, layers, geometric dimensioning, and tolerance. AP214 is an extension of AP203.

    STL

Exports the model data in a binary Stereolithography (*.stl) format.

  3. Under File Name, enter a name for the file that you want to export.

Note: By default, the file name is the name displayed in the Design Manager.

  4. From the Save to llist, select a location:
    OptionDescription
File on disk You can export the file to a storage device on your local system.
3DDrive You can export the file to a 3DEXPERIENCE location that you have access to on the cloud such as a 3DDrive. Within the 3DDrive, you have the option to export the file your folder or to a shared folder.

When you have 3DDrive selected, the Get link to the file on 3DDrive option is displayed. Select Get link to the file on 3DDrive to copy the 3DDrive link. You can paste this link in a file or email. If the recipient has access to that 3DDrive, they can use the link to access that exported file.

Note: The link appears after you click Export and this dialog box closes.

  5. Optional: Following the selected file format, specify the following options:
    File Format OptionDescription
    3DXML
    Allow editing
Exports the 3DXML file without restrictions and editable by other users.
    For review (read-only)
Exports the 3DXML as a read-only file and cannot be edited.
    3MF
    Resolution
Exports the STL file with the following options.
    Maximum Chordal Deviation
Chordal deviation is the perpendicular distance between the actual curve and the approximating line segments.

Enter a value in the box or use the slider to specify the maximum chordal distance (range from 0.01 to 1 mm).

    Maximum Angle Deviation
Angle deviation is the distance between incidence and exit angles.

Enter a value in the box or use the slider to specify the maximum angle distance (range from 0.05 to 30 degrees).
