Comparing Model Versions

You can compare two or more model versions from the same version family or a different version family in the Compare app.

Before you begin: Open both the Model Definition and Compare apps in the same dashboard. You can pin the apps to the dashboard.
Tip: You can also use the Compare to Selected action in the Revision History dialog box to start a comparison of two model versions.
  1. Drag one model version that you want to compare from the 3DSearch results or from any draggable region of the Model Definition app and drop it into the left pane of the Compare app.
  2. Drag the other model version that you want to compare from the 3DSearch results or from any draggable region of the Model Definition app and drop it into the right pane of the Compare app.

The model versions are compared on three levels:

  1. Revision level: If one of the model versions is a newer revision of the other, they are marked as Revisioned. If they are unrelated but share common child objects, they are marked as Different.
  2. Variants, Option Groups, and Configuration Rules: If the model versions have the same variants, option groups, and configuration rules, they are marked as Identical. If a variant, option group, or configuration rule exists in only one of the model versions, it is marked as either Right Only or Left Only, depending on which model version has it.
  3. Variant values and Options: If the model versions have the same variant values and options, they are marked as Identical. If a variant value or option exists in only one of the model versions, it is marked as either Right Only or Left Only, depending on which model version has it.
The properties are listed next to each other in the Properties pane. They are color coded to indicate which model version they belong to when they do not match.
