This task shows you how to open designs from 3DEXPERIENCE platform in AutoCAD.

Before you begin: The designs must already be saved in 3DEXPERIENCE database.

  1. Click 3DEXPERIENCE > Open from AutoCAD toolbar.
The 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog box appears
  2. Search for the designs using Search option in 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog box.

You can search and open designs saved in your Workspace/Project folders. See Searching Designs.

The results of the search is listed.
Note: Shared structures are not expanded for each occurence on the search list of ENOVIA Open dialog box.

You can search for designs in your workspace/project folder using the Folder field in the search filters.

Select a design from the list to view the preview image of the design which is displayed in the left corner of 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog box.

  3. Enter the following options in 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog box:
    • Checkout To. The designs opened from ENOVIA are downloaded to the directory specifed. The directory specified in the Checkout preferences by the Integration Administrator is shown by default. Click [...] to browse and select another directory as the checkout directory.
    • View. Click and select a table defined by the Integration Administrator from the drop down list. The selected table is applied to the 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog box.
Note: When a custom table is applied to show Rev and Type, it is not mandatory that the Rev column will display only major revisions when a structure is expanded. The Type and Rev columns for a custom table will show minor type and revision if the connected object is minor.
  4. Click Options in 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog box.
The 3DEXPERIENCE Options dialog box opens.

Set your options for opening a design from ENOVIA:

    • Related Drawing. Downloads all associated drawings to the selected model. The files are copied to the users designated local working directory..
    • Design Configuration. Select an option from the drop down list to display specific versions or revisions of designs in 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog page:
      Option Description
As Built This view shows the physically connected structure. To display all the objects that are connected at the time of check in. For iterations, only As-Built view is applicable. This view will always display the latest iteration. Checkin and modification by all users results in As-Built view.
Latest Revision To display the latest revision of the selected nodes and its underlying structure. This will work across revisions only. By applying this view, all the latest revisions for objects are displayed.
Latest Under Global Design To display the objects that are in their latest under global design state.
Latest Design Frozen To display the latest frozen revision of the selected nodes and its underlying structure. If no released revision is found for a particular node, then the node retrieved by applying the As-Built view to the parent node, is displayed.
Latest Design Released To display the latest released revision of the selected nodes and its underlying structure. If no released revision is found for a particular node, then the node retrieved by applying the As-Built view to the parent node, is displayed.
    • Select All Children. Select this check box to select all the children of the selected design for opening in AutoCAD.

    Click OK.

  5. Click Open.

The Confirm File Overwrite dialog box opens if the files already exist in the location specified as the Checkout directory. The following options are available:

    • Overwrite All. All files listed in the file overwrite confirmation dialog are overwritten. The files corresponding to the parent nodes which are selected for the Open operation are loaded in the CAD tool.
    • Overwrite Selected. Only the selected files are overwritten. The files corresponding to the parent nodes which are selected for the Open operation are loaded in the CAD tool (The file is loaded in the CAD tool irrespective of whether it was selected for overwrite or not).
    • Overwrite None. None of the files listed in the file overwrite confirmation dialog are overwritten. The files corresponding to the parent nodes which are selected for the Open operation are loaded in the CAD tool (The file is loaded in the CAD tool even when it is not overwritten).
    • Cancel. Aborts the Open operation.
Note: If a drawing is currently active in AutoCAD, then the same drawing cannot be opened from ENOVIA.

The selected designs are opened in AutoCAD and also downloaded to the location specified in Checkout To in 3DEXPERIENCE Open dialog box.

Note: You must manually update the renamed OLE documents after Open.
