Defining the Discovery Decision Path

You can define the required Characteristics of Candidates in the Project and the Questions, Tests, and Protocols used to assess them.

This task shows you how to:

Ensure that an Innovation Design & Decisions project already exists, with an associated Innovation Profile and a specified Stages Sequence.

Add a Characteristic

You can define the Characteristics for the Candidates to fulfill.

  1. In a project, select the Discovery Decision Path tab.
  2. Click Characteristic.
    This opens a characteristic creation panel.
  3. Complete the fields:
    • Title: The name of the candidate characteristic.
    • Description: A summary of the features of the characteristic.
    • Requirements: A Requirement, or more than one, of the Innovation Profile related to this project, which this characteristic can satisfy.
  4. Click Create.

This shows a new characteristic on the Discovery Decision Path tab. See Discovery Decision Path.

Create a Question

You can refine a characteristic with one or more questions can determine whether each candidate fulfills the characteristic.

  1. On the Discovery Decision Path tab of a project, select a characteristic.
  2. Click Question.
    This opens a question creation panel.
  3. Complete the fields:
    • Title: The name of the candidate question.
    • Description: A summary of the features of the question.
    • Requirements: A Requirement, or more than one, of the Innovation Profile related to this project, which this question can satisfy.
  4. Click Create.

The new question is shown for its characteristic on the Discovery Decision Path tab. See Discovery Decision Path.

Create a Test

You can specialize a question with a test to run on candidates.

  1. On the Discovery Decision Path tab of a project, select a characteristic's question.
  2. Click Test.
    This opens a test creation panel.
  3. Complete the fields:
    • Title: The name of the candidate test.
    • Description: A summary of the features of the test.
    • Stage: The stage of the project's Stages Sequence at which to perform the test.
    • Decisional: Whether the results of the test determine whether to promote a candidate. See Promoting Candidates.
    • Requirements: A Requirement, or more than one, of the Innovation Profile related to this project, which this test can satisfy.
  4. Click Create.

The new test is shown for its question on the Discovery Decision Path tab. See Discovery Decision Path.

Use a Protocol

You can associate a test with a protocol for assessing candidates.

Context:

You can add protocols to Innovation Design & Decisions using the Data Import tool, see Importing Data.

  1. On the Discovery Decision Path tab of a project, select a test.
  2. Click Protocol.
    This opens a protocol creation panel.
  3. In the Protocol field, enter some text from the name of a candidate to add to this project.
  4. Click to open 3DSearch.
    If you do not enter any search text, the 3DSearch results show all protocols.
  5. Select the protocol to add to the test and click OK.
    This adds the protocol to the test. Next, configure the parameters and thresholds for the results for each context.
  6. Click Context and select a parameter.
    This adds the related parameters to the protocol.
  7. For each parameter, set an appropriate value for the current test.
  8. Click Threshold and select a result parameter, a comparator, and a value. Repeat this for as many results as required.
  9. For Requirements choose a Requirement, or more than one, of the Innovation Profile related to this project, which is satisfied by this protocol.
  10. Click OK.
    This saves the protocol. If any candidates on the project already have data for the protocol, they are displayed in the consolidated answers for the test.
