Using Line and Bar Charts

Line and bar charts represent data and their properties. You can interact with most of these charts to explore their data.

By default, line and bar charts are represented by the following icon on their widget header: .

This task shows you how to:

Display More Chart Entries

On any chart, when the number of entries exceeds the x-axis length, a pagination automatically appears on the top right-hand corner of the chart so you can display hidden entries.

  1. On a chart that contains more entries than displayed, click See more ….
  2. Use the pagination to navigate through all the entries.

Hide or Display Chart Series from the Legend

You can hide or display chart series from the legend.

  1. On a chart legend, click any series name to hide its content from the chart.
    The series is grayed out in the legend and its corresponding items are hidden.
  2. To display a hidden series, click its grayed name in the legend.

Series are hidden or displayed accordingly. You can also hide or display series from the configuration menu. For more information, see Configuring Line and Bar Charts.

Zoom In and Out on a Chart

You can zoom in and out on chart content.

  1. Click and drag on the chart to zoom in.

    You can repeat this step multiple times to zoom in closer.

  2. To zoom out, click Reset zoom.

Refine from a Chart

You can refine the content displayed on a page from most charts.

On a chart, click the item (a point on a line, a bar, an axis label, etc.) you want the page to be refined on.

Though it is possible to refine from most charts, this feature is not available on all of them. If nothing happens when you click a chart item, it means that you cannot refine from this chart.

The corresponding filter is added to the Active Filters bar and the page immediately reloads to apply it to the content of the page. You can repeat the step to add several filters to the page.

Annotate a Chart

To highlight important values or add your own comments, you can add notes anywhere you want on chart series. Depending on your application configuration, the notes you create are either only visible to you or to all users who have access to the application. For more information, contact your administrator.

Add Notes

  1. On a chart, click Menu and select Annotate.
  2. Click anywhere on the chart.
  3. In the Annotate chart dialog box, enter your note.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Optional: Drag the note to wherever you want to place it on the chart.
  6. Optional: Drag the lower-right corner of the note to resize it.
  7. Click Close to quit the Annotate menu.
    You can repeat the steps to add several notes to the same chart.

Delete Notes

  1. Click Menu and click Annotate.
  2. Hover over the note you want to delete and click .

    Warning: There is no confirmation message and no undo.

  3. Click Close to quit the Annotate menu.

Configure a Chart

You can configure some chart parameters.

Click Menu and click Configure. For more information on the Configure menu, see Configuring Line and Bar Charts.

View Chart in Full Screen

You can display charts in full screen.

  1. On a chart, click Menu , and select Full Screen.
  2. To exit full screen mode, click anywhere outside the chart or click Menu , and select Exit full Screen.

Display Chart Data as a Table

For most charts, you can switch the display to table view. The table view is often more readable when the chart content is very heavy.

  1. On a chart, click Menu , and select Switch to table.
  2. Optional: In table view, the following actions are available from the Menu :

    Search data Search the content contained in the table.
    Swap axes Change the layout of the table.
    Export data Download the data as a CSV file.
    Edit settings… Display or hide columns, and fix columns.
    Reset table state Discard any of the settings editing you may have made.
    Switch to chart Return to the chart view.
