Calculate Target Weight Using

These values specify how the ingredient’s target level in the batch is calculated.

Option Description

As Added Basis % (wet)

The amount of the ingredient added to the batch before processing loss, as a percentage.

When you modify this value, the As Added Basis Wt (wet) value updates automatically.

As Added Basis Wt (wet)

The amount of the ingredient added to the batch before processing loss, in terms of weight.

When you modify this value, the As Added Basis % (wet) value updates automatically.

The unit of the value is that which is set in the Units option under Quantity Preferences, or the Units column of the formula grid.

After Processing % (dry)

The amount of the ingredient in the batch after processing loss, as a percentage.

When you modify this value, the After Processing Wt (dry) value updates automatically.

After Processing Wt (dry)

The amount of the ingredient in the batch after processing loss, in terms of weight.

When you modify this value, the After Processing % (dry) value updates automatically.

The unit of the value is that which is set in the Units option under Quantity Preferences, or the Units column of the formula grid.

Active Basis %

The percentage of active ingredient in the batch. Activity is the potency of a material expressed in percentage.

When you modify this value, the Active Basis Wt value updates automatically.

Active Basis Wt

The amount of active ingredient in the batch.

When you modify this value, the Active Basis % value updates automatically.

The unit of the value is that which is set in the Units option under Quantity Preferences, or the Units column of the formula grid.

Ordering Basis %

The ordering percentage calculated for the ingredient based on the percent value specified in the Overage % field in the Adjustments options.

When you modify this value, the Ordering Basis Wt value updates automatically.

Ordering Basis Wt

The ordering weight calculated for the ingredient based on the percent value specified in the Overage % field in the Adjustments options.

When you modify this value, the Ordering Basis % value updates automatically.

The unit of the value is that which is set in the Units option under Quantity Preferences, or the Units column of the formula grid.

Per Piece Dry Wt

The final active amount of the ingredient in a single sales unit where the batch consists of many pieces. For example, tablets.

IUs per gram

A standard unit of measure for potency on a per gram basis.

Moles

This field is not editable and is defined in the material properties.

Quantity Preferences

Option Description

Percent

If selected, Formulation Design calculates and displays the weights in percentage values.

PPM

If selected, Formulation Design calculates and displays the weights in parts per million values.

Units

The weight or volume unit.

Set Wet(%) Tolerance

These options specify the tolerance margins of the ingredient's level in the formula.

Option Description

Standard Tolerance (2%)

If selected, Formulation Design uses the default tolerance of the ingredient.

Weight Critical (0.5%)

If selected, the ingredient is weight critical, and the weight tolerance is set to 0.5%.

Adjustable

If selected, a range of wet weight percentage values is acceptable for the ingredient, in addition to the target value. The adjustable ingredient is used to calculate formula variations in viscosity or pH on a batch-to-batch basis. Formulas that include an adjustable ingredient must also include a QS ingredient. For more information, see Adjustable Ingredients.

Min % (w/w) The minimum allowed percentage of the adjustable ingredient.
Max % (w/w) The maximum allowed percentage of the adjustable ingredient.

Adjustments (optional)

These options specify values that can be used for adjusting the final levels of ingredients.

Option Description

Ingredient Activity(%)

The percent activity of the ingredient.

Processing Loss(%)

The estimated percentage of the ingredient that is lost during batching. For example, water is lost during manufacture of spray granules, tablets, and pressed powders. This option allows you to adjust the formula for that loss, and deliver the final formula with the intended ingredient levels.

Specific Gravity

The specific gravity of the ingredient.

Overage(%)

The overage amount for the ingredient. The calculated percentage and weight values appear in the Ordering Basis field and in the Formula Grid Overage % column.
