Defining Beam Sections

Advanced Beam Section Options

Poisson's ratioEffective Poisson's ratio for the section to provide uniform strain in the section because of strain of the beam axis (so that the beam changes cross-sectional area when it is stretched).
Use consistent mass matrix formulation Use the McCalley-Archer consistent mass matrix based on the cubic interpolation of deflections and quadratic interpolation of rotations instead of a lumped mass formulation.
Transverse shear stiffness Calculate from Elastic: Calculate the shear stiffness values from the elastic properties.

Isotropic: Define a single value of transverse shear stiffness.

Orthotropic: Define the shear stiffness of the section in the local directions of the cross-section.

Isotropic Transverse Shear Stiffness Options

Shear stiffnessValue of the shear stiffness of the section. (Units of force.)
Slenderness compensation Default: The default value of 0.25 is used for the slenderness compensation factor.

Specify: Provide a value for the slenderness compensation factor.

Orthotropic Transverse Shear Stiffness Options

Shear stiffnessK13: Value of the K13 shear stiffness of the section. (Units of force.)

K23: Value of the K23 shear stiffness of the section. (Units of force.)

Slenderness compensation Default: The default value of 0.25 is used for the slenderness compensation factor.

Specify: Provide a value for the slenderness compensation factor.
