Locking and Unlocking Documents

You can lock documents to prevent other users from modifying them in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and in CATIA V5. The modifications performed by another user on the locked document are rejected.

This task shows you how to:

Configure Settings

There are two options in the Report Unlocked document modified tab:

  1. Show warning: The Lock Modified Documents dialog box appears after you modify any component. You can lock designs from here. If you do not lock them, a warning appears during the save operation.
  2. Enforce lock status: This setting ensures that you have locked all the modified documents before you save them. If you do not lock them, Save is disabled.

Lock or Unlock Documents from 3DEXPERIENCE Menu

You can lock documents to prevent other users from modifying them in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and in CATIA V5.

  1. Create an assembly in CATIA V5, and save it in 3DEXPERIENCE.
  2. Select a document.
  3. From the Top Bar, select 3DEXPERIENCE > Lock.

    You have locked the document.

  4. Select the locked document. From the Top Bar, select 3DEXPERIENCE > Unlock.
    You have unlocked the document. The Unlock command also detects concurrent product structure modifications.

You can also perform lock or unlock from the context menu.

Lock or Unlock Documents from Save Dialog Box

You can lock or unlock documents from the Save dialog box.

  1. In the Save dialog box, right-click a document and select Lock.
    You have locked the document.
  2. Select the Unlock check box, and click OK.
    You have unlocked the document.

Using the Lock Modified Documents Dialog Box

The Lock modified documents dialog box appears when you modify a document in CATIA V5.

  1. Modify a document that you have not locked in CATIA V5.
    The Lock modified documents dialog box lists the newly modified documents in the active session that are unlocked, or locked by another user. By default, the unlocked documents are selected.

    In the Lock modified documents dialog box, you can view CAD Type of all kinds of documents:

    • PS documents such as representation documents and drawing documents.
    • Non-PS documents such as catalog, analysis, process etc.
    You can also sort the document based on the CAD Type by clicking the sort icon in the CAD Type column.

  2. Click Lock All to select all the documents that you want to lock.
  3. Click Lock None to clear all the selections.

    Note: You cannot select the documents that are locked by another user.

  4. Click OK to lock the selected documents.

The Lock and Unlock commands check for obsolete documents.

For the Lock command:

  • The icon appears for the obsolete documents in the Lock modified documents dialog box.
  • In this dialog box, you can choose whether you want to force the locking on the obsolete documents, or not. For more information about obsolete status, see Document Status in CATIA V5.

For the Unlock command, a dialog box does not appear. This command:

  • Fails globally displaying an error message if you cannot unlock all the objects of the scope.
  • Partially succeeds, or fails if the scope contains objects that can be unlocked, and objects that cannot be locked.

The Lock and Unlock commands may fail if an object is already locked by another user.
