Creating a Fold

You can fold a layer to enclose another layer. In other words, a fold consists of extra material added at the edges of the layer domain, on top of another layer or layers group.


Before you begin: The layer to fold must exist in the stacking.

  1. From the Transformation section of the action bar, click Fold , and select the layer to fold.

    The layer to fold must be mono-domain.

  2. Select the edges to fold.

    It must be a free edge (Border of material) and a straight line.

    You can select several edges.

  3. Enter the Fold width, that is the width of the material to add at the selected edges.

    A ruler is available.

  4. From the 3D area or from the tree, select the Target layer, then specify if the fold is created above or below this layer.
  5. Optional: Enter the Fold extra length (Bend allowance).

    If you enter a fold extra length, it is visible in the flat view.

A parallel curve is computed for each selected edge, offset by the Fold width value, to form a new domain named Fold Domain.

A Fold feature is created in the tree.

Note: You can add a fold to an existing fold provided the selected edge is a free edge from the material boundary. The direction of multiple folds alternate.
