Comparing Logical Feature and EBOM Structures

You can compare the structures of model versions and logical features, or compare the structures of a logical feature or model version to an EBOM.

You can use the Compare Logical Features report to compare the logical feature structures of:

  • two logical features
  • a model version and a logical feature
  • two model versions (could be two revisions of the same model version)

You can use the Compare to EBOM report to compare the structures of:

  • a logical feature and the EBOM for a part
  • a model version and the EBOM for a part

The report uses color coding and visual cues to highlight differences. When you compare a model version revision to another model version revision, you can choose to synchronize the structures. Synchronization helps to reduce feature proliferation.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Do one of the following to select the first object to compare:
  1. View the stand-alone list of logical features.
  2. Select the logical feature used as the basis for comparison.

Or:

  1. Open the required logical feature or model version. See Opening a Logical Feature or Opening a Model Version.
  2. Click Logical Structures in the navigation pane. See Logical View Tab on the Logical Structures Page.
  3. View the Logical View page tab.

When starting from the list of logical features for a logical feature or model version, that item is always the first object used for comparison. If you select an item on the page, that item is NOT used for the comparison.

Compare Logical Views

  1. Select Reports > Compare Logical Features.
The selected item shows as Logical Feature1 or ModelVersion1.
  2. Edit these fields for the second object:

    Field NamesDescription
NameClick to search for and select the second logical feature or model version.
Match Based OnSelect the fields used to determine whether the features of object 1 match those of object 2. Items are considered the same if the values for all selected fields are the same.

The match can be based on Name, Display Name, Find Number, Reference Designator, Component Location, Quantity, and Usage.

Compare BySelect each field that you want to compare between the matched features.

The comparison can be based on any field not selected for Match Based On.

Expand LevelFrom the drop-down list, select the number of levels you want to expand the structure prior to comparison. Choose a number from 1 to 5 or All. Only expanded nodes are compared.

  3. Choose the type of report output you want:

    Report OutputDescription
Complete SummaryReports all information about the features being compared in object 1 and object 2. If the comparison is being made between a model version revision and another model version revision, you can synchronize the two objects.
Difference Only SummaryReports only the differences between the objects being compared in object 1 and object 2.
Object 1 UniqueReports only information unique to the objects being compared in object 1.
Object 2 UniqueReports only information unique to objects being compared in object 2.
Common ComponentsReports only the similarities in the objects being compared between the two objects.

  4. Click Done.

The report presents a summary table with fields appropriate for the context object (model version or logical feature).

In the Complete Summary report, you can sync either the second object to the first object (using the Sync to Left button) or the first object to the second object (using the Sync to Right button).

Compare EBOM Structures

  1. Select Reports > Compare to EBOM.
  2. Edit the following fields for the second EBOM:

    Field NameDescription
NameClick to search for an select a part that represents the physical BOM component and is not yet configured.
Match Based OnSelect the fields used to determine whether the features of object 1 match those of object 2. Logical features are considered the same if the values for all selected fields are the same.

If the comparison is being made between a model version revision and another model version revision, you can synchronize features between the two objects.
Difference Only SummaryReports only the differences between the features being compared in object 1 and object 2.
Object 1 UniqueReports only information unique to the features being compared in object 1. For logical features, this field displays the context object details as a Display Name-Revision combination.
Object 2 UniqueReports only information unique to features being compared in object 2. Click to bring up a search window in which you can search for the second object. For logical features, the allowable types for search include model versions and logical features.
Common ComponentsReports only the similarities in the features being compared between the two objects.

  4. Click Done to generate the report.
