Assign Effectivity
You can assign effectivity to an existing product instance.
Before you begin: Open a product instance to which you want to assign effectivity. To assign effectivity to a child
instance, ensure that the parent product is configured and that one of the criteria
is selected.
-
To assign the effectivity you can do one of the following:
- Select the product instance, then from the Tools section of the
action bar, select .
- Right-click the selected instance, then select Edit Effectivity of
Instance.
You can select multiple instances for assigning effectivity if:
- A model dictionary is attached to the parent reference of any of the
selected instances.
- At least one criteria type
(Variant/Evolution)
is enabled on the parent reference of any of the selected instances.
- The compatibility of the parent model dictionary and criteria
(Variant/Evolution)
is matched.
- A change validation is not pending for any of the selected
instances.
- All of the selected instances are in an editable state.
The immersive Define Effectivity dialog box appears. The
effectivity of the first selected instance is populated in the dialog box.
-
To define the effectivity criteria and its expression, you can
do one of the following:
- Select one of the configuration criteria types from the
available list.
- Select one of the configuration contexts you want to
inherit from.
There are as many tab pages as there are models attached to the parent
reference.
-
If you want to use the same expression as session effectivity for the
subsequent operations to be performed in the work area, select the Keep this
Effectivity for next operations in Session check box.
-
To exit the immersive Define Session Effectivity
dialog box, click OK:
Select Evolution and Variant/Options
You can use the corresponding criteria types that are enabled
on the parent reference.
Before you begin: Open the Define Effectivity dialog box in the work area.
-
Select the model version from the
Model Version area.
Note:
You cannot select model versions that are in Frozen state to be
part of effectivity expression. The model versions that are in
Review, Release, or
Obsolete state are considered to nr
Frozen model versions. The frozen model
versions are grayed out and cannot be selected. This is applicable only
when you are defining new effectivity expression and for
Model Version type
Evolution criteria.
The Criteria column of the Local
effectivity area is generated with the selected model versions. The
Variant/ Options area shows only the one
available for the selected model versions in the model dictionary. A tool
tip appears when you move the pointer over the check box. Click the
already selected check box to remove the selected model version from the
Local effectivity expression. When you
select the root node of the model version, all the derived nodes are
automatically selected and computed for defining the effectivity
expression. In this scenario, the selected model version has
A, B and C revisions. Now
Revision A has A.1, A.2 ,
A.3, A.4 and A.5
and Revision B has B.1 and B.2
as its derived children. The Variant/ Options
area displays the common variant and option groups and values of the
selected model versions and its derivations. As the entire tree is
selected, the expression is defined from 1 to infinity. The infinity
icon
appears before the nodes where all the existing children and the
children to be created are regarded as part of expression. If you click
on a branch again, you can exclude the node and all its derived nodes.
To close the effectivity expression, right-click the highlighted
node and select Single value. The single value is
considered as the closure point of effectivity expression for the
selected node. You can also select a particular node to define the
effectivity. Note:
The Single command is not
available on an already selected node.
-
Select the builds from the
Builds area.
The Criteria column of the Local
effectivity area is generated with the selected units. A tool tip appears
when you hover over the check box. Click the already selected check box
to remove the selected builds from the Local
effectivity expression.
-
Optional: Select the manufacturing plans from the
Manufacturing Plans area.
The
Criteria column of the
Local effectivity area is generated with the
selected manufacturing plans. A tool tip appears when you move the pointer over
the check box.
Click the already selected check box to remove the selected
manufacturing plans from the
Local effectivity expression.
-
Select the cell either the
From... or
...To column name from the
Date area.
The
Select a Date dialog box appears.
-
To select a day from the current month, click the corresponding
day-of-the-month button.

-
Click

The Criteria column of the Local
effectivity area is generated with the selected date range. A tool tip
appears when you hover over the check box.
-
Select the milestones from the
Milestone area.
By default all the available milestones are selected and the expression is defined from
that milestone to infinity. The values are separated by a comma or displayed
as a range if they are consecutive. The infinity icon appears
before the nodes. You can also select a range of milestones from the
Milestone area. For example, if you want to select a range of
milestones, from Milestone 1 to Milestone 3,
the expression by default displays from Milestone 1 to
infinity. Therefore, to select the range, deselect
Milestone 3. Now, the expression is defined from
Milestone 1 to Milestone 3.
The Criteria column of the Local
effectivity area is generated with the selected milestone. A tool tip
appears when you hover over the check box. Click the already selected
check box to remove the selected model version from the
Local effectivity expression. To close
the effectivity expression, right-click the highlighted node and select
Single value. The single value is considered as
the closure point of effectivity expression for the selected node. You can
also select a particular node to define the effectivity.
-
Select the variant and variant value and option group and options from the
Variant/Options area.
The Criteria column of the
Local effectivity area is generated with the
selected variant or option group. A tool tip is available when you hover
over variant and variant value and option group and options. Click the
already selected check box to reject the variant or option group. The
green check is replaced with a red cross. Click the selected check box
again to remove the variant or option group. The red cross is
unavailable. The selection, rejection or removal of the variant or
option group from the Local area is also reflected in
the Variant/ Options area.

Note:
You can now apply filter on multiple columns
available under the variant and options table and on
multiple models. The filter criteria applied on the
columns or on the selected model is available in
another model tab. The

re-applies the stored filter each time you open
either the Define Effectivity
or the Filter dialog box.
