Filtering Configured Structures Using a Predefined Configuration

You can use a predefined configuration as a filter in the Predefined node available under the Configuration branch. These predefined configurations are available from your current Product Finder work area; however, you can only edit these predefined configurations in the Product Structure Design work area.

Important: When you filter a configured structure, you cannot filter out any objects that do not have a defined effectivity. Any object that does not have defined effectivity is always included in the filtered structure.


Before you begin: Explore a configured product structure in the Product Finder work area.
  1. To apply a predefined configuration as a filter on the configured product structure, from the Navigation section of the action bar, click Filter .
    Based on any existing predefined configurations associated with it, the structure opens in the following way:
    Predefined Configurations Results
    No predefined configuration associated with it The unfiltered structure is opened in the navigation work area.
    One predefined configuration associated with it The predefined configuration automatically opens in the navigation work area.
    More than one predefined configuration associated with it A dialog box allows choose to open one of the predefined configurations or the unfiltered structure in the navigation work area.
  2. To define the predefined configurations as a filter, in the Filter on dialog box, do one of the following:
    • Select the Predefined node, and then click New.
    • Right-click the Predefined node, and the select New Predefined-Configuration criteria.
  3. To search for the predefined configurations, in the Define Configuration Filter criteria dialog box, do one of the following:
    • In the Name box, enter your search criteria, and then click Simple Search .
      Important: This search is case sensitive.
    • Click Advanced Search . For more information, see Filtering with Advanced Search.
    • To choose the most recently used configuration filter, click Last Used.

    Tip: Select the Search on the root object only check box if you want to search for only those product configurations associated with the root object of your structure.

  4. Optional: To delete the predefined configurations, select the predefined configurations, and click Delete .
  5. Optional: To activate or deactivate the predefined configuration, select the predefined configurations, and then click Activate/Deactivate .

    If you activate a predefined configuration when another predefined configuration is active, the original active predefined configuration is automatically deactivated.

  6. To apply the filter to your structure, click OK.
