Capturing Selected Areas of Images

You can capture an extended selection of images on the whole screen, or focus on a specific part of the tab.

This task shows you how to:

Capture a Screen Area

This capture mode lets you perform an extended selection of images, which is especially useful to capture several tabs, split tabs or dialog boxes simultaneously, for example. It is the only possible mode to capture several viewers.

  1. In the capture commands, select Screen Area .
  2. In the Capture Configuration dialog box, define the general configuration options of your choice.

    Important: The Rendering tab is unavailable because it does not apply to this capture mode.

  3. Click Capture .
    The capture commands are now unavailable.
  4. Click in the work area and drag to create a bold bounding outline around the area to be captured.
    You can select any elements of the screen, not only those displayed in the tab.

    As you drag, the height and width of the outline you are drawing (expressed as the number of pixels) are displayed.

  5. Release the mouse button.
    A preview of the captured image is displayed in the Capture Preview dialog box.
  6. Click OK if you are satisfied with the capture, otherwise click Cancel (in that case, you are not prompted to save or print the captured image). You can also click the appropriate icons to define additional outputs (other than those you defined in the output preferences).
    If you do not click any of these icons, the image is saved according to the preferences you selected in the Output Preferences tab.
    Important: As soon as the Capture Preview opens, you exit the Screen Area capture mode. To restart capturing selected areas of images, select Screen Area again.

Capture a Tab Area

This mode captures the contents of the tab only. It applies within one viewer and do not capture outside the target viewer.

  1. In the capture commands, select Tab Area .
  2. In the Capture Configuration dialog box, define the general configuration options of your choice.
  3. Access the Rendering tab to select the capture mode.

    In area capture mode, you can use the Background color list if needed. However, if you want to capture with a white background an object containing white lines, then we recommend that you select the Capture white in black option to obtain a correct result.

    Tip: To exit the capture selection mode without capturing the image but keep the capture commands available, select another capture mode.

  4. Click Capture .
    The capture commands are now entirely dimmed.
  5. Click in the work area and drag to create a bounding outline around the area to be captured.
    As you drag, the height and width of the outline you are drawing (expressed as the number of pixels) are displayed:



  6. Release the mouse button.
    A preview of the captured image is displayed in the Capture Preview dialog box.
  7. Click OK if you are satisfied with the capture, otherwise click Cancel (in that case, you are not prompted to save or print the captured image).
    If you click OK, the Capture Preview dialog box is closed and additional dialog boxes might open according to the output preferences you selected.

    When finished, you can see that the bounding outline now displays handles and a symbol in the center:



    Important:

    These handles let you:

    • Drag the outline by dragging the "X" symbol at the center of the outline.
    • Resize it by dragging the handles at each corner, or the sides of the outline.
  8. Optional: Resize the outline.
    The Capture Preview reopens as soon as you release the mouse button to let you save the capture.
  9. To exit the capture selection mode without capturing the image but keeping the capture commands available, select another capture mode.
