About the Open in Read Only Command

This section provides you with more information on the Open in Read Only Command. Its main use is to open two minor revisions: if a minor revision of an object is already opened, you can open a second minor revision (but no more than two) of the same object in a specific window using the Open in Read Only command. The structure opened when running the Open in Read Only command depends on the object type.

You can open in Read Only three types of objects:

  • Product (3D Shapes, 3D Parts, drawings, engineering specifications, mechanisms and reviews)
  • PPR
  • RFLP.

This command opens in Read Only objects as follows:

Object Representation reference Connection Structure
Product 3D Shape

All connections except Engineering Connections related to (at least) one component which is not opened in session.

All the selected objects are expanded.
3D Part
Drawing
Review
Engineering Specifications
Mechanisms
Materials When Shading with Material is activated, any open action from any application (e.g. Search, Content Chooser, etc.) loads the product with the whole material data. All the existing open options are kept. The material data is added independently of the other options.
PPR All representations

All connections except Engineering Connections related to (at least) one component which is not opened in session.

All the selected objects are expanded.
RFLP All representations

All connections except Engineering Connections related to (at least) one component which is not opened in session.

All the selected objects are expanded.
Important: Different behaviors from the Open command
  • Most of the modification commands are grayed out and cannot be used.
  • It is not possible to create links between data opened with "Open" command and data opened with "Open minor version" command. An error is raised at link creation.
  • It is not possible to use commands refreshing the session with data from database, including the "Refresh" and "Replace with Minor Revision" commands.
  • With the “Open” command, the same data can be displayed in different windows. When the user does a modification in one window, the modification is automatically reflected in other windows. The modification is not reflected in a window created with the “Open in Read Only” command.
  • When opening a data through “Open in Read Only ” command, all links are broken (external references, geometric links, publications, engineering connections, drawings etc…). All broken links are displayed in the “Edit Links & Relations” command.
  • When opening a data through "Open in Read Only" command, persistent graphic properties, positioning overloads and materials are not applied.
  • When opening a data through "Open in Read Only" command, the properties of the associated Configuration are not available and cannot be displayed.
  • When opening a Review through "Open in Read Only" command, the associated Context is not available and cannot be loaded.
