Managing Images in the Album

You can use the various capabilities provided by the Album but also, how to record and replay sequences of interactions.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Only raster files, video files and vector files in CGM, PS, HPGL, HPGL2 or CGM format can be browsed in the Album.

Preview Images in the Album

You can display images in the Album after they have been captured and perform viewing operations using your mouse.

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Album... .
    The system automatically assigns names to each image ("Capture_xxx", where "xxx" is a number from 001 to 999). Note that you can sort images by class or type by clicking the corresponding column title.
  2. Use the file tree to the left to navigate to the folder containing images you want to view in the Album.

    To go back to the default folder, click .

  3. Use the View Mode list at the bottom of the dialog box to select the display type.
  4. Select an image from the list (you can also right-click it then select Preview or double-click the image name from the list).
    The image is displayed in the preview area in the bottom part of the dialog box and its storage folder is displayed in the Path box at the top of the dialog box.

    Note that you can perform multiple selections by holding down Ctrl then clicking, holding down Shift then clicking or dragging using the left mouse button.

    Important: You can perform the following viewing operations using your mouse:
    • Center the display at a specific location by clicking the middle mouse button.
    • Pan by dragging using the middle mouse button.
    • Zoom by pressing and holding down the middle mouse button, then clicking the left (or right) mouse button and dragging (still holding the middle mouse button down).

    Performance and image quality is determined by the number of images on the preview page.

  5. Right-click a raster image then select Properties.
    The look of the information dialog box varies according to the image format you selected.
  6. Click OK to close the information dialog box and go back to the Album contents.
  7. Select OK to exit the Print Preview dialog box.

Rename Images in the Album

You can change the name of images in the Album. You can only modify the name, you cannot modify the class or the extension, for example.

  1. In the Album dialog box, right-click the image to be renamed then select Rename.
    When Rename is selected, the name of the selected image becomes editable to let you type the new image name.
  2. Key in the new name then press Enter.

Delete Images from the Album

You can remove captured images from the Album. The contents of the Album are stored on your system in a non-editable file in the location defined by the CATTemp environment variable. Deleting this file deletes the contents of the Album.

  1. In the Album dialog box, select the images to be deleted.

    You can perform multiple selections by holding down Ctrl then clicking, holding down Shift then clicking or dragging using the left mouse button.

  2. Right-click then select Erase.
    A warning dialog box opens to prompt you to confirm or not the removal:
    • Click Yes to confirm the removal: the selected images are deleted and the image list is updated accordingly.
    • Click No to cancel the removal and go back to the Album.

Copy Images to the Clipboard

You can copy images from the Album to the clipboard, for integration into OLE-compliant application documents.

  1. In the Album dialog box, select the images to be copied to the clipboard.

    You can perform multiple selections by holding down Ctrl then clicking, holding down Shift then clicking or dragging using the left mouse button.

  2. Right-click then select Copy.
    The selected image is copied to the clipboard, from where it can then be pasted into another application document (for example, a word processing package).

    Note that depending on the image format you select, Copy might be unavailable. This is the case when right-clicking a MPEG or AVI file, for example.

  3. Paste the image into the external application.

Save Images in Other Formats

You can save images stored in the Album in other formats and in another location.

  1. In the Album dialog box, select the images to be saved to another format.
    You can perform multiple selections by holding down Ctrl then clicking, holding down Shift then clicking or dragging using the left mouse button. The formats to which you can save depend on the format (pixel or vector) of the image you selected.
  2. Right-click then select Save As.

    Note that depending on the image format you select, the command might be unavailable. This is the case when right-clicking a MPEG or AVI file, for example.

  3. In the Save As dialog box, enter a name for the file.
  4. Navigate to the desired location.
  5. Select a format from the list.
    The formats you can save to depend on the format (pixel or vector) in which the image was originally saved.
    Important: Images stored in a temporary folder can be saved in BMP format only:
  6. Click Save.

Edit Images in the Album

You can edit pixel images in the Album once they have been captured.

  1. In the Album dialog box, right-click the image to be edited then select Edit.
  2. Use the Effects palette to zoom, resize or translate the image.
  3. Optional: You can also use the following keyboard shortcuts to view the image:

    Ctrl + Page Down Zoom 1:1
    Left, Right, Up or Down arrow Smooth horizontal or vertical move.
    Shift + Left, Right, Up or Down arrow Faster horizontal or vertical move.
    Ctrl + Left, Right, Up or Down arrow Move from one border to another.

  4. Access the Navigator.

    Any visualization change you have made in the Navigator simultaneously updates the image displayed in the Image Editor.

  5. Optional: Pick wherever you want in the Navigator preview to set the position of the viewpoint center in the Image Editor.
  6. When finished, click OK to exit the Navigator and go back to the Image Editor.
  7. Use the Tools palette to select the tool and the color to be used for painting and drawing elements.
  8. Optional: Click Save to save the edited image under another name and/or in another location.
  9. Click OK to validate and go back to the Album.
    If the image has been modified, a dialog box prompts you to:
    • Click Yes to overwrite the already existing image with the modified one. The image is saved with a name identical to the original image.
    • Click No to save the image under a new name ("capture_000" by default) in TIFF format.

Print Images from the Album

You can print pixel or vector images stored in the Album. Images are printed the same way as any other document.

  1. In the Album dialog box, select the images to be printed.
    You can perform multiple selections by holding down Ctrl then clicking, holding down Shift then clicking or dragging using the left mouse button.

    The formats to which you can save depend on the format (pixel or vector) of the image you selected.

  2. Right-click then select Print.

    Note that depending on the image format you select, the command might be unavailable. This is the case when right-clicking a MPEG or AVI file, for example.

  3. In the Print dialog box, define the print parameters.
  4. Click OK to validate.

Replay Videos from the Album

You can use the Video Player to replay video files (such as MPEG or AVI files) stored in the Album.

  1. In the Album dialog box, select the video file to be replayed.
  2. Right-click then select Play.

    Important: This additional command only appears when a video file is selected.

  3. In the Video Player dialog box, click Playing.
    The video replay starts.
  4. Optional: Click Pause or Stop to pause or stop the recording.
  5. When finished replaying your video, click Cancel to close the Video Player.
