About Macro Editability

This section provides background information about macro editability.

The ability to edit macros is the same as for all other PLM entities: you can either edit entities or access them in read-only mode.

If you create a macro library, this new entity is in edition mode.

If you open an existing macro library, the editability mode depends on an access setting common to all PLM entities.

If saving in the database of the modified library has failed, when a user interaction involves a modification of the current macro library (for example, deleting a macro), or after clicking Save in the Visual Basic editor, a message informs you that saving has failed.

The in-session macro library has taken into account the modifications but the database library has not been updated. This scenario can occur, for example, if the macro library has been locked by another user or if the library has been modified in the database since the last time it was opened.

When opening a macro library in read-only mode, the number of authorized commands is limited to prevent unwanted modifications. When working in edition mode, all commands are authorized.

In the macros GUI, if the current macro library is opened in edition mode:

• The Create ..., Rename ..., Delete and Obfuscate... commands are available.
• The editing command is named Edit....
• In the Macro libraries dialog box, the Switch to Edition and Switch to Ready Only commands are unavailable because the mode cannot be switched.

In the macros GUI, if the current macro library is opened in read-only mode:

• The Create ..., Rename ..., Delete and Obfuscate... commands are unavailable to prevent unwanted modifications.
• The editing command is named Browse....
• In the Current macro library or document list, a forbidden sign is displayed next to the macro library name.
• In the Macro libraries dialog box, you can use Switch to Edition and Switch to Ready Only to switch the mode of the selected macro library.

In the macros GUI, whether you open a VSTA macro library in edition mode or read-only mode, the Create ..., Rename ..., Delete and Obfuscate... commands are unavailable because edition and debugging are handled by Visual Studio.
