Native Apps Tabs

You can organize the layout of native apps tabs and widgets to optimize your work environment.

This task shows you how to:

Access Layout Preferences

You can define the default layout when creating tabs and widgets.

Right-click the tab then select Widget Layout Preferences....

These preferences can also be accessed through Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > User Interface > Widget Layout.

Create a Tab

You can create as many tabs as you want. By default, no tab is created when you first access the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Click Add New Tab .
A tab is created in an empty 3DEXPERIENCE window. The default name (New Tab) is incremented for each tab you create afterward.
Important: If you open an app when you first access the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, a new tab with an empty widget is automatically created.

Rename a Tab

You can change tab names.

Before you begin: This capability is available only when no widget is maximized.
  1. Do one of the following:
    • Double-click the tab name.
    • Right-click the tab name then select Rename.
  2. Enter the new name.
  3. Press Enter.

Important: By default, the tab name is the same as the name of the root product. When the root product name is modified, this change is reflected in the tab name. But if you rename the tab, then it is not impacted anymore by changes made to the root product name. This information is not saved throughout sessions.

Note also that renaming a tab does not change the root product name.

Display the Widget Count

You can view the number of widgets contained in each tab at a glance.

  1. Right-click the tab then select Show Widget Count.
The number of widgets is displayed before each tab name and an icon indicates whether the active widget is maximized or not .
  2. To remove the widget number, right-click the tab again then clear Show Widget Count.

Reorder Tabs

You can modify the default tab order.

Drag the tab to its new location.

Tile Widgets

You can organize all the widgets in the active tab at once with respect to each other.

Before you begin: You can define an accelerator for these commands through the Commands tab in Me > Preferences > Customize. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: User Interface: Customizing the User Interface: Customizing Command Properties.
  1. Right-click a tab then select the appropriate command:
    • Tile Horizontally

    • Tile Vertically

    • Tile as Grid to scatter all widgets on the left and right sides of the tab.

The tab and widget order remains unchanged.

Important: This mode is relevant only when the tab contains at least two widgets.

  2. Optional: Resize widgets by dragging their edges.

Minimize or Maximize Widgets

You can make a widget fill the whole tab.

Before you begin:
  • By default, tabs are in a maximized state, which means that the first widget you open fits the whole tab.
  • You can define an accelerator for these commands through the Commands tab in Me > Preferences > Customize. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Basics: User Interface: Customizing the User Interface: Customizing Command Properties
  1. Click Maximize or double-click the widget's title bar.
The action bar is displayed in the active maximized widget, regardless of the current extraction state of the action bar.

Any new widget you open afterward in the same tab is automatically maximized and is displayed on top of the previous maximized widget.

    Important:
    • The title bar is not available in maximized state. To be able to run the commands available in the title bar, restore the widget down.
    • The maximized state is managed per tab: some tabs may have maximized widgets whereas other tabs may have all their widgets visible.
  2. Click Restore Down to minimize the widget.

Move Widgets

You can move widgets inside a tab but also across tabs.

  1. Click the widget's title bar and drag it to its new location in the active tab.
The moved widget becomes transparent and on hover over a valid drop, a visual feedback is displayed to let you know that you can drop the widget there.

  2. Click the widget's title bar and drag it to the tab of your choice.
  3. Wait until the tab name is underlined (to indicate that it is now the active tab) then drop the widget onto it.

Extract Widgets

You can move widgets outside the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and keep on editing their contents.

Before you begin: Do not activate the Full Screen mode.
  1. Reduce the size of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
  2. Drag the widget outside the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Nonextracted widgets are resized in the active tab.

  3. Click the extracted widget to make it active.
The action bar is displayed at the bottom of the widget. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Basics: User Interface: Customizing the User Interface: Managing the Action Bar Layout.
  4. Edit the contents of the extracted widget.
  5. When finished, drag the extracted widget back to the tab of your choice.

Switch Widgets on Mouse Over

You can use the mouse to have a quick view of the widgets contained in each tab.

  1. Click the widget in the active tab to access it.

Important: If the current widget is maximized, move your mouse over the tab to display the preview, and then click the widget to be activated.

  2. To access a widget in another tab:
    1. Move your mouse over the tab.
The pointed tab is underlined and a preview of the widgets it contains is displayed with respect to the opening order (the last open widget is displayed on the right).
    2. Click a widget.
The widget is activated and highlighted in blue in the preview.
Tip: When hovering over the preview, click Close to close the corresponding widget.

Move Widget to a New Tab on Mouse Over

You can use the mouse to move widgets outside their tab.

  1. Move your mouse over the tab.
  2. Move over the preview of the widget to be moved, and then click Move widget to a new tab .
The widget is extracted from the current tab and is moved to a new one.
Tip: You can also select Me > Preferences > Customize, and then access the Commands tab to define an accelerator. For more information, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Basics: User Interface: Customizing the User Interface: Customizing Command Properties.
