Administration: Configuring the Types Available in the New Content Dialog Box

Administrators can prevent users from creating some types of objects, create 3D Part shortcuts, and specify favorite types for users.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  1. To set the CATReferenceSettingPath environement variable and connect to the 3DEXPERIENCE in administration mode, follow Steps 1 to 6 in Installation and Setup: Install: 3DEXPERIENCE Platform: Installing 3DEXPERIENCE Platform Services for the First Time: Installing Services One-by-One: Native Apps: Configuring the Software: Configuring Settings: Locking Settings.
  2. In the top bar, hover over Add and select Add > Content from the list.

Tip: You can also press CTRL+N.

The New Content dialog box appears.

Hide Types from the New Content Dialog Box

You can hide types from the New Content dialog box.

  1. Right-click the type you want to hide and select the Hide type in UI option.
The type is no longer displayed in user mode.
  2. To display the type again, clear this option.
This will allow users to create objects of this type.
  3. Click Validate administrator's settings to save your modifications.

Create 3D Part Shortcuts

You can create 3D part shortcuts for some types to allow users to directly create customized 3D parts with the specificity of the type.

  1. Right-click the type you want to create a 3D part shortcut for and select Create 3D Part Shortcut.
  2. Close the New Content dialog box and reopen it.
The shortcut is displayed in the same section as the original type. It is displayed with a 3D part icon and the name of the type followed by a 3D part extension.
Important: You cannot hide a 3D part shortcut but you can delete it at any time. To do so, right-click the shortcut and select Delete shortcut.
  3. Click Validate administrator's settings to save your modifications.

Define Favorite Types for Users

You can add types as favorites in the New Content dialog box. These types are displayed as favorites to all users when creating content. Contrary to the favorites they add in user mode, users cannot remove from the Favorites list types that have been added in administration mode.

Important: Adding types as favorites in administrator mode hides the default favorite types in user mode (Physical Product, 3D Part, and Drawing).

  1. To add an object type to the Favorites section, right-click the object type in the list, and then select Add to Favorites.
The type is displayed in the Favorites section of the New Content dialog box.
  2. To remove an object type from the Favorites section, right-click the object type from the Favorites section, and then select Remove from this list.
Note: The favorites are also displayed in the Add menu.
  3. Click Validate administrator's settings to save your modifications.

The types you specified as favorites are displayed in the Favorites list for users.
