Importing the Design

You can import design information from a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet contains the names of the sequences, plies, ply groups, materials, orientations, starting and end plane, left and right limit (with possible offset). In addition, you will specify a reference plane and ramp support computation elements.

Note: This task is available in Composites Design.

  1. From the Grid Design section of the action bar, click Import Composites Design .
  2. Select the format of the file to import from the list.
    1. Optional: Click View Template to visualize the format.

      The default templates TemplateReadWriterDefault*.xls are stored under ./startup/composites/.

  3. Click ... and select the file to import.

    Note: Import Composites Design does not support cylindrical parts.

    1. Optional: Click Open File to open the file.
  4. Specify the required inputs. See About Composites Design Import for more information.

    Tip: When you click OK, this information is stored and is proposed the next time you enter the command.

  5. Click Import.
    Import Composites Design reads the file, and creates or updates the design from the data it contains.
    • The work area is updated accordingly.
    • The number of plies created, updated or with errors is given.
    • The resulting plies are listed in the dialog box, with their status.
  6. Select one line in the dialog box.
    • A reframe is done in the work area.
    • Information and error flags, if any, give the distance to the reference plane or the name of the element and more details when you place the cursor on them.
    • When relevant, causes of the error such as missing material, orientation, update error, ... are listed in the dialog box.
