Preparing for Import/Export of Files

You can customize the default format and the default location of external data files.

General descriptions are given below. The dialog boxes vary with the commands.

This task shows you how to:

Specify the Default Location

You can exchange (that is, import or export) content, either as file-based objects or as database reference objects. Both modes preserve the traceability, history and reusability of the content.

  1. From the top bar, select Me > Preferences, and then click the App Preferences tab.
  2. Select 3D Modeling > Multi Discipline Engineering > Composites Design.
  3. Under External Data Access, select the required default location for exported files (File-based system or Database).
    The selected location is proposed by default in all the commands.
  4. Start the command.
    1. Either keep the default location or switch to the other one.

      • file-based system.
      • database.

  5. To export a file
    1. In a file-based system export, click ... and enter the path of the export file in the File Selection dialog box that appears. Click Save to revert to the main dialog box.
    2. In a database export: Click to open the Content Chooser to retrieve an existing reference to overwrite. Click OK to revert to the main dialog box.

    3. Click OK in the main dialog box.
  6. To import a file
    1. In a file-based system import, click ... and enter the path of the import file in the File Selection dialog box that appears. Click Open to revert to the main dialog box.
    2. In a database import, click to open theContent Chooser to retrieve an existing reference to open. Click OK to revert to the main dialog box.

    3. Click OK in the main dialog box.

Specify the Default Format

In addition to .txt format, you can choose the type of Excel file (.xls or .xlsx) to export or import.

  1. From the top bar, select Me > Preferences, and then click the App Preferences tab.
  2. Select 3D Modeling > Multi Discipline Engineering > Composites Design.
  3. Under External Data Access, select the format (.xls, .xlsx or .txt) to be proposed by default.
    This format is proposed by default when you perform an import or an export.
    Note: In the command, you can always switch temporarily to another format.
