Materials and Composition

You can view the materials and substances used by a Part.

Required access roles:

  • Baseline: Reader, Author, Leader
  • On premises only: App-specific: Compliance Engineer, Compliance Administrator, Material Engineer

To access this page:

  1. Open the required Part.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Materials & Composition.

Columns

Some columns only show values for materials, and other columns only show values for substances.

On the cloud only: All undisclosed substances for a material show on a single row for that material. You cannot view the details for the undisclosed substances, but you can see the total Target Quantity for all undisclosed substances for that material.

Field NameDescription
Materials/Substances The descriptive name of a material or substance. You can expand materials to view the substance composition.
Undisclosed
On the cloud only: This column does not display.
On premises only: Used for substances: Yes or No. If Yes, the substance is defined as undisclosed and is only accessible to authorized users.
Min Quantity
On the cloud only: This column is not available on the cloud.
On premises only: This column only displays if configured for your system.

The minimum quantity of the substance. For a material, you cannot edit this column.

Target QuantityThe weight of the material or substance.
Max Quantity
On the cloud only: This column is not available on the cloud.
On premises only: This column only displays if configured for your system.

The maximum quantity of the substance. For a material, you cannot edit this column.

Quantity U of M The target weight of the substance: %, PPM, or % (range). When the unit of measurement is range, shows min and max. When the Quantity Type is Fill and the unit of measurement is range, the min and max values show the same value as the calculated target quantity.
Quantity TypeHow the Target Weight is calculated:

FillThe app calculates the target weight when you click Save. Only one substance in the list can have Fill selected.

When using Fill, all components must use either percentage, range, or PPM as the Weight Unit of Measure.

SpecifiedEnter a value for target weight.

Revision LevelFor an external material, the revision level.
TypeThe type of material or substance.
State RevisionThe lifecycle state and revision level for the material or substance.
Revision StatusFor an internal material, shows an orange square if a higher revision exists. Hover over the square to view the level of the higher revision. Click to open the higher revision in a new window. If the higher revision is obsolete, the orange square is not shown.

Blank for an external material or substance, or for the latest revision of an internal material.

Trade NameThe trade name of the material.
ManufacturerThe manufacturer of the material.
CAS Number The CAS number of the substance.
EC Number A substance identifier used as an alternative to the CAS number.
DescriptionA brief description of the material or substance.
NameThe name of the material or substance.

Actions/Toolbar Commands

Click Edit All to activate the items in the Actions menu. If you have the Reader access role, you cannot edit the information on this page.

Add MaterialSearch for an existing material to add to the Part. After selecting the material, enter a Target Quantity and edit any other fields, then click Save.

The app validates these items:

  • Only one component substance or material has a Quantity Type of Fill.
  • If Quantity Type is Fill, the Quantity U of M must be either % or PPM.
  • Total % quantities cannot exceed 100%.
  • All component materials must have either weight units or proportion units.

Update to Latest Material RevisionReplaces older revisions of selected internal materials with the latest revision. The Revision Status column shows an orange square for materials that need to be updated.-
Add Undisclosed Substance
On premises only: You must have the Compliance Engineer role. Search for an existing undisclosed substance to add to the selected material. After selecting the substance, enter a Target Quantity and any other fields, then click Save.

Add SubstanceSearch for an existing substance to add to the selected material. After selecting the substance, enter a Target Quantity and any other fields, then click Save.-
RemoveRemoves the selected material or substance.-
Edit All / View AllSwitches between edit mode and view mode. You must be in edit mode to use the other commands in this menu.-
