Managing Screens

A data perspective is a set of screens, made of several visualizations that may interact with one another.

Add a New Screen

By default, the data perspective contains a home page, which is the only required screen. You can add as many screens as required to your data perspective.

Before you begin: You have created a data perspective and switched to Edit mode.
From the left panel, under Presentation, click Add screen.

A new screen with the default name "new screen" is created and added to the list of available screens.

Note: This new screen is selected automatically (as depicted by the blue left border).

Rename a Screen

Before you begin: You have created a data perspective and switched to Edit mode.
To rename a screen, you can choose one of the following methods:
  • From the left panel, under Presentation, hover over a screen, click and click Rename.
  • In the Screen properties panel, click the screen name to edit it.
    Note: The right panel displays Screen properties when no visualization is selected. Otherwise, it shows Visualization properties.

Specify a Start Screen

All data perspectives have a start screen, that is the screen that displays first, when you open the data perspective in view mode.

By default the first screen is the start screen.

Before you begin: You have created a data perspective and switched to Edit mode.
  1. To specify a start screen, you can choose one of the following methods:
    • From the left panel, under Presentation, hover over the screen, click and Set as start screen.
    • In the Screen properties panel on the right, go to Display > Screen display, and select Show as start screen.
  2. To create a standard home page, add a sidebar menu to the screen. See Configure a Sidebar Menu for the Start Screen.

Change the Screen Display

It is important to adjust the screen so that the viewers can get a nice display, especially on small widgets within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. It is better to avoid having multiple scrollbars.

Note: A Data Perspective screen is divided according to a grid. By default the grid contains 24 columns, the row height space is 5px height and the space between visualizations is 0.

  1. Select a screen.
  2. In the Screen properties, go to Display > Screen display, and select:
    • Fit to page: Visualizations do not exceed the height of the available space in the page.
    • Fit to width: Applies to the whole page. Visualizations do not exceed the page width, regardless the size. This it the default option.

    Note: If the screen contains a single visualization, this visualization takes the full page size automatically.

Specify the Background Color of a Screen

Before you begin: You have created a data perspective and switched to Edit mode.
  1. Select a screen.
  2. In the Screen properties, go to Display , and select Background color.
    A color picker appears to let you choose the background color of the screen.

Configure a Sidebar Menu

Before you begin: You have defined a menu in Menus.
  1. In the Screen properties, go to Sidebar.
  2. From Menu, select a menu previously defined in Menus.



Configure a Sidebar Menu for the Start Screen

For a standard app, it is better to add a specific start screen (or home page), with links to the other app screens.

Before you begin: You have:
  • Selected the Display > Screen display > Show as start screen option.
  • Defined the screens to show in the sidebar menu.
  1. In the Screen properties, go to Sidebar.
  2. To add the Data Perspective name as title, select Display experience name.
  3. Optional: Enter a Subtitle.
  4. In Links, select the screens that you want to add to the sidebar.
  5. Optional: In Content & Knowledge links, specify external links to the app documentation.

    Typically, links to the User Assistance documentation, or to Training support information.

  6. Optional: In Social networks, specify external links to related networks.

    For example, you can add a link to a 3DSwym community.



Note: Data Perspective Studio shows a Or Drag and Drop your content anywhere line when you add On-Drop Effects. For more information, see Specify an On-Drop Effect.

Specify an On-Drop Effect

You can specify effects when users drop data on the screen. This can be from another 3DEXPERIENCE platform widget, or from another visualization in the Data Perspective app.

Before you begin: You have created a data perspective and switched to Edit mode.
  1. In the Screen properties, go to Actions, and click On drop.
  2. Click Effects to add a new effect.
  3. Select the effect Behavior.
    OptionDescription
    Filter Filters screen data with the content dropped on the screen.

    Target studio variable: Select the data query variable to store source data.

    Data Query: Select the data query (defined in Data) to use as input.

    Result set: Select the result set of the data query (defined in Data) to use as input.

    Field: Specify the field to update to filter data.
    Set variable Specify the variable that stores the data.

    Target studio variable: Select the data query variable where Data Perspective Studio stores source data.
    Navigate to page Select the destination page to open when you drop an object from another widget.

    Target screen: The destination page where the user goes after dropping an object from another widget. For example, for a page showing risks, dropping a risk from another page could redirect the user to a details page.
  4. In Object type, specify the name of the dropped object type.

Duplicate a Screen

You can duplicate an existing screen inside the same app.

  1. Select a screen.
  2. In the Screen properties header, click .
    A <screen name> - copy appears in the left panel, under Presentation.

Delete a Screen

Before you begin: You have created a data perspective and switched to Edit mode.
To delete a screen, you can choose one of the following methods:
  • From the left panel, under Presentation, hover over a screen, click and click Delete.
  • From the right panel, go to the Screen properties and click .

Notes:
  • When you delete a screen, the previous screen in the list gets selected automatically.
  • When you delete the start screen, which bears the icon, the first screen in the list automatically becomes the start screen.
  • Any data perspective must contain at least one screen, meaning that you cannot delete the last screen.
