Using a Grid

In a diagram, you can easily position your components using a grid.

Before you begin: Open an existing model with components.
  1. From the Diagram section of the action bar, click Grid to display the grid.
    The grid is displayed.

  2. Drag and drop your component anywhere in the diagram.
The component snaps to the grid.

    Notes:
    • To see this feature you must do the following to display all grid lines:
      1. Set Vertical Spacing and Horizontal Spacing to 1 from Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Modeling and Execution > Dymola Behavior Modeling, the Editor tab, the Grid group.
      2. Zoom the diagram. With default zooming you still only see every 10:th gridline after changing the spacing.

(With the default spacing of 2 and default zooming you only see every 20:th gridline.)

    • When you create objects with grid snapping activated, each object is snapped to the grid when created. For example, each corner of a polygon snaps to the closest gridpoint when being created.
Tip: You can define the grid color and spacing from Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Modeling and Execution > Dymola Behavior Modeling, the Editor tab, the Grid group. For more information, see Editor: Grid
  3. Optional: If you do not want components to be snapped to the grid when instantiating or moving them, from the Diagram section of the action bar, click Grid Snapping to deactivate snap to grid.
The component is not snapped to grid if you move it or when you instantiate a new component.

Note: To see this feature you must do the following to display all grid lines:
    1. Set Vertical Spacing and Horizontal Spacing to 1 from Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Systems Modeling and Execution > Dymola Behavior Modeling, the Editor tab, the Grid group
    2. Zoom the diagram. With default zooming you still only see every 10:th gridline after changing the spacing.

(With the default spacing of 2 and default zooming you only see every 20:th gridline.)
