Demoting an object

You can demote a design from its current state to the previous state using Demote and Mass Demote.

This task shows you how to:

Demote

You can demote a design from its current state to the previous state if you have access to the integration to which the design belongs and if you have demote access to the design in its current state.

For example, if you want to redesign a product that is already in the Frozen state, you must first demote the object to the Under Global Design state.

Before you begin:

Access the Properties page of a revision. See Object Summary.

  1. Click Lifecycle tab on the PowerView page for the object. The Lifecycle page opens with the current state highlighted.
  2. From the page toolbar, select Actions > Demote. If Demote operation is successful, it displays alert message – “Demote Operation Successful”. If Demote operation fails, it displays error message.

    Notes:
    • You can demote a revision object to a lower state (subject to access permissions) even if a higher revision of the same object is in the Design Released (Released) state.
    • You cannot demote objects from Design Frozen to Under Global Design state using Mass Demote.
    • You cannot demote X-CAD Design Management objects from other apps. An error message appears, if you demote X-CAD Design objects from other apps. To demote, use the Action > Demote option of the X-CAD Design Management app.

When the object is demoted, the previous state in the cycle becomes the current state of the object. If the demotion must be approved but has not been, an error message appears.

You must not demote an individual part that is connected to other parts in a structure with circular relationships (MML links).

The demotion of family or an instance depends upon the selection. For more information, see About Demoting Objects.

Mass Demote

You can now demote all the selected objects together using Mass Demote .

  1. Click Navigate tab on the PowerView page for the object.
  2. Click Mass Demote from the Navigation tab.
    Note: Note the following:
    • The Mass Demote is displayed on the Navigation tab for revisions of the selected objects. The selected objects can be family objects as well as instance objects.
    • You can Mass Demote the objects that are connected to the baselines.
    • All the objects selected to demote must be in the same state. If an object is in Design Released or Obsolete Design state, you can demote these objects with only VPLMAdmin role.
    • If a family object is demoted, all the instance objects in the family are demoted. If an instance object is demoted, all the instance objects along with the family is demoted.
    • If a family object is locked by other user you can demote the instance object with only the VPLMAdmin role.
    • If an instance object is locked by other user, the family object gets locked. You can demote the other instance object with only the VPLMAdmin role.
    • If only the instance object is locked by other user and the family object is unlocked, then you can demote the other instance object with only the VPLMAdmin role.
    • If an object is demoted, its parent objects or child objects are not demoted.
    • If an object is locked by another user, it can be demoted only with the VPLMAdmin role. You can demote an object if it's locked by yourself.
    • You can demote an object from Frozen state to In Work state using VPLMAdmin role and Leader role.
