Defining Part Orientation

You can automatically orient parts on the build tray using specific criteria to minimize material loss.


Before you begin: Prepare the parts to manufacture by creating regions on the parts.
  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Build Layout .
  2. In the Build Layout dialog box that appears, click Part and select a part.
  3. Under Parts to Position, click Part Orientation .
  4. In the Orientation Preparation dialog box that appears, select any axis defined on the product from the Axis list.
  5. Under Selection Criterion for Computation of Product Orientation, select one or multiple criteria and define a weight.

  6. Under Parameters, specify the parameters.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Select Fast Orientation.
    • Select Manual Orientation.
  8. In the Results dialog box that appears, click Apply for Next or Apply to All as required to validate a proposed orientation.
  9. Click OK in the Orientation Preparation dialog box to save the orientation.

The specified part orientation criteria and orientation are saved.
