Replacing an Item by a New Manufactured Part

You can replace a Manufactured Part or Provided Part by a new Manufactured Part. A new resulting product is also created and attached to the new Manufactured Part.

This can be useful in some particular cases of multi-instantiated parts, where you may want to replace an instance of a Manufactured Part by a new instance of a Manufactured Part reference.

In other cases, you may have created a manufacturing assembly structure with Provided Parts, and now you decide you want to make some parts. For that, you can replace an existing Provided Part by a new Manufactured Part reference.

Replace a Manufactured Part by a New Manufactured Part

You can replace a Manufactured Part by a new Manufactured Part.

  1. Right-click a Manufactured Part and select Replace > New > Manufactured Part.
    The Replace Options dialog box appears, allowing you to manage impacted links.



  2. Click OK in the Replace Options dialog box.
    The current instance of the Manufactured Part is replaced by a new instance of a new Manufactured Part reference. A resulting product is created and attached to the new reference.

Replace a Provided Part by a New Manufactured Part

You can replace a Provided Part by a new Manufactured Part.

  1. Right-click a Provided Part and select Replace > New > Manufactured Part.
    • If the Provided Part implements a Make part, the Replace Options dialog box appears.
    • If not, a message box appears asking if you want to replace the Provided Part. If you reply Yes, the Replace Options dialog box appears. If you reply No, the Provided Part is not replaced.
  2. Click OK in the Replace Options dialog box.
    The instance of the Provided Part is replaced by a new instance of a new Manufactured Part reference. The resulting product is generated.

Notes:
  • If the Manufactured Part or Provided Part to be replaced is multi-instantiated, the Replace all the instances of the selected element check box in the Replace Options dialog box enables you to replace all the instances of the selected item by instances of the new Manufactured Part reference.
  • When the item is replaced under a defined or named effectivity, the original item instance is split and a new one is created, with the new effectivity. For more information, see Replace by Revision, With Effectivity Split.
