Managing Manufactured Parts

You can manage Manufactured Parts using a set of commands that allow you to generate, analyze, open, update, and modify these items.

Generate a Manufactured Part

You can generate a Manufactured Part from a selected design part.

Important: A scope must exist between the root item and the root product.

  1. Right-click the root Manufacturing Assembly tile and select Insert Predecessor > Manufacturing Assembly.
  2. Drag the products and drop them onto the new Manufacturing Assembly tile.


    Note: Provided Parts are created for each of the products.
  3. Right-click the Manufacturing Assembly and select Manufactured Part Management > Generate Manufactured Parts .
    Three Manufactured Parts are generated and replace the three Provided Parts under the Manufacturing Assembly.
  4. Select the Manufacturing Assembly tile, and in the context toolbar select Show Manufactured Parts Tiles .


    Note: An icon appears at the bottom center of each Manufactured Part indicating that an output product is linked to the item.
  5. Select the Manufacturing Assembly tile, and in the context toolbar select Expand to Second Level .


    Pre Drill steps, which are predecessors of the Manufactured Parts, are shown. These steps are shown in a stack because they have the same reference. They can be unstacked using the Un-stack Items contextual command.

Analyze a Manufactured Part

You can analyze a Manufactured Part with a detailed report.

  1. Select a Manufactured Part.
  2. Click Analyze a Manufactured Part .

    Note: You can also right-click the item tile and select Manufactured Part Management > Analyze Manufactured Part .

    A Report panel is displayed showing the content of the item. It allows you to determine which fasteners are industrialized and how (drill type, diameter, depth, and components). The report can be saved in a file using the Export into a file button.

Use a Manufactured Part

You can use a Manufactured Part in a Manufacturing Assembly to replace a Provided Part.

  1. Select a design part in the tree.
  2. Click Use a Manufactured Part .
    A Use dialog box appears containing the identifier of the design part and the Manufacturing Assembly that is the parent of the Provided Part implementing the part.
  3. Click Use in the dialog box.
    An Object Selection dialog box appears.
  4. Search for a Manufactured Part.
  5. Select the desired item in the list and click OK.
    The Provided Part is replaced by the selected Manufactured Part in the Use dialog box.

Update a Manufactured Part From Assembly Logic

You can update a Manufactured Part that is no longer consistent with the referenced part. Select the Manufactured Part Update Status, From Assembly Logic option in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Simulation > Process Engineering >Fastened Item Definition > Fastened Items > Manufactured Part Update Status to update the item according to the design it implements and the assembly logic. The update consists in adding, modifying or removing items and updating the resulting product.

  1. Open a Manufacturing Assembly structure that includes a Manufactured Part.
  2. From the Tools section of the action bar, click B.I. Essentials , then from the list, select Update Status.
    The item tile is green.

  3. Delete a Remove Material step.
    The tile is blue.

  4. From the Authoring section of the action bar, click Update a Manufactured Part .
    An Update Log dialog box appears showing the detail of the update that was done (Action type, Concerned Item, Concerned Fastener/Product, and Parent Item).

    A Remove Material step is created and the tile is green again.

Update a Manufactured Part from a Manufacturing Assembly Structure

You can update a Manufactured Part that is no longer consistent with the Manufacturing Assembly structure. Select the Manufactured Part Update Status, From Manufacturing Assembly Structure option in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Simulation > Process Engineering >Fastened Item Definition > Fastened Items > Manufactured Part Update Status to update the item according to the Manufactured Part structure. The update consists in updating the resulting product according to the structure.

  1. Open a Manufacturing Assembly structure that includes a Manufactured Part.
  2. From the Tools section of the action bar, click B.I. Essentials , then from the list, select Update Status.
    The tiles are green.

  3. Modify a Remove Material step (for example, change the diameter of the feature in the Properties dialog box).
    The tiles are blue.

  4. From the Authoring section of the action bar, click Update a Manufactured Part .
    The Manufactured Part Update dialog box appears. It lists the modifications (for example, the number of modified holes) and proposes updating the modified holes.
  5. Click Yes.
    The holes are updated according to the Manufacturing Assembly structure and the tiles are green again.

Open the Manufactured Part Assistant

You can modify a Manufactured Part using the Manufactured Part Assistant.

  1. Select a Manufactured Part.
  2. From the Authoring section of the action bar, click Open Manufactured Part Assistant .
    The Manufactured Part Assistant dialog box appears.

    Two steps are proposed by the assistant:

    1. Reassign fasteners to other Remove Material steps.

      Tip: You can also create a Manufactured Part manually using the Insert Predecessor contextual menu. For more information, see Creating an Item from Tile or Tree.
