Managing a Resulting Product

You can manage resulting products with the Manage Resulting Product panel. A resulting product is made up of the products directly assigned to the item and the output of its predecessors. A resulting product can be either created automatically by computation or defined manually by selecting an existing product. It can be opened in a new authoring tab as a manufacturing assembly.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Open your manufacturing assembly and product structures. Select one or several manufactured items or Manufacturing Installations and click the Manage Resulting Product command in the Authoring section of the action bar. The Manage Resulting Product panel displays.
Notes:
  • The status of the assigned resulting products displays in the Status column:
    • "User defined": If the resulting product is assigned using the Set Resulting Product command.
    • "Up to date": If the resulting product is assigned using the Compute Resulting Product command.
    • "Not up to date": If the resulting product is assigned using the Compute Resulting Product command, with a failed computation status.
    • "Unknown": If the status of the computed resulting product is unknown.
  • If the panel is launched on a Manufacturing Installation, the Compute Resulting Product and Update Resulting Product commands are disabled.

Defining a Resulting Product

You can assign an existing product as an item or Manufacturing Installation's resulting product for each predefined configuration.

  1. Select a resulting product in the list.
  2. Click Set Resulting Product.
  3. If one or more products are already assigned to the item or Manufacturing Installation, a message box displays. Click Yes to confirm the replacement of the assigned products by the selected product.

    The product is displayed on the tile. An icon shows that a resulting product is linked to the item or Manufacturing Installation.

Computing a Resulting Product

You can compute a resulting product from the output of its predecessors and the products directly assigned to it.

  1. Select an item in the tree.
  2. Click Compute Resulting Product .
    The output product is computed and associated with the manufactured or provided part. A message displays, and an icon displays on the tile to indicate that a resulting product is linked to the item.
    Note:
    • If there is a scope link between an item and a product, the computation creates and specifies a new evolution of the scoped product as the resulting product.
    • If there is no scope and no output specified on its predecessors, the computation creates and specifies a new product as a resulting product.

Tips: When the EBOM dataset contains CATIA fasteners consumed in the MBOM by Fasten or Remove Material manufactured items, the resulting product computed from a Manufacturing Assembly or a Manufactured Part does not contain fastener instances.
  • A resulting product computed from a Manufacturing Assembly contains instances or products implemented by provided children and either:
    • Fastener components in the case of Spot Fasteners with components
    • Products containing the geometric representation of the fastener in the case of Bead Fasteners.

    When the Manufacturing Assembly has Remove Material children, features representing the holes are added to the Resulting Product.

  • A resulting product computed from Manufactured Part contains:
    • An instance of the EBOM product implemented by the Manufactured Part
    • Features for each Manufactured Part's child representing the various holes made in the part
    • And fastening components mounted on the Manufactured Part.

Updating a Resulting Product

You can re-compute and update a resulting product that was computed using the Compute resulting product command .

  1. Select a part with a resulting product in the list.
  2. Click Update Resulting Product .
    The resulting product is updated.

Computing/Updating a Resulting Product

You can compute/update a resulting product that was created with the Replace by New command.

  1. Select an item in the tree.
  2. Click either the Compute Resulting Product command or the Update Resulting Product command.
    • If there is a scope link between the manufactured part and the product, the resulting product is computed/updated.
    • If a resulting product with an "user defined" status is already assigned to a manufactured part, it cannot be computed/updated

Removing a Resulting Product

You can break the link between an item or Manufacturing Installation and the resulting product.

  1. Select one or several resulting products in the list.
  2. Click Remove Resulting Product, then click Yes.
    The link between the item or Manufacturing Installation and the resulting product(s) is broken. The icon is no longer displayed on the tile.

Reconnecting an Item or Manufacturing Installation with a Resulting Product Revision

You can reconnect an item or Manufacturing Installation with the latest revision of a selected resulting product.

  1. Select a revision in the list.
  2. Click Reconnect on Revision.

    Note: This command is only available for resulting products with a "user defined" status. It is disabled for computed resulting products.

The new revision is loaded in session and the item or Manufacturing Installation is automatically linked to this new revision.

Opening a Resulting Product in the Current Tab

You can open a resulting product in the current tab.

  1. Select a resulting product in the list.
  2. Click Open Resulting Product in Current tab.
    The resulting product, prefixed MfgAssy for Manufacturing Assembly, opens in the same tab, under the PPR Context.

Opening a Resulting Product in a New Tab

You can open a resulting product in a new authoring tab.

  1. Select a resulting product in the list.
  2. Click Open Resulting Product in a New tab.
    The resulting product, prefixed MfgAssy for Manufacturing Assembly, opens in a new authoring tab, and can then be edited like any product.

Specifying Whether to Overload the EIN/3D of a Resulting Product

You can specify whether to overload the EIN (Enterprise Item Number)/3D of a resulting product.

Before you begin: Click Column Attributes to display the hidden by default Enterprise Item and 3D Overload columns. For more information, see Resulting Product Panel with Configurations.
  1. Select one or several resulting products in the list.
  2. Select Yes or No in the column(s)'s menu of the resulting products.

    • This choice is only available for resulting products assigned without configurations.
    • For resulting product assigned with configurations, the columns are set to No by default.

Resulting Product Panel with Configurations

You can configure the panel.

  1. You can customize the panel's view with contextual commands:

    • Click Edit Filters to display the filters manager.
    • Click Edit Attributes to display the columns attributes manager.
    • Click Properties to edit the properties of the resulting product from the list view.

  2. If the panel is launched on an item or Manufacturing Installation with predefined configurations, a Configuration menu displays. It lists the predefined configurations, and lets you choose between the No Configuration and Multiple Configurations options.
  3. Click Column Attributes to display two hidden by default additional columns:

    • Enterprise Item to specify whether to overload the Enterprise Item Number (EIN) of the resulting product.
    • 3D Overload to specify whether to overload the 3D of the resulting product to consider for Product build-up.
      Note: If the panel is launched on a Manufacturing Installation, the 3D Overload column is set to No and uneditable.
