Editing the Tool Assembly of a Turning Operation

You can create and edit the tool assembly of a turning Machining Operation. You can modify the tool assembly by:

  • editing its characteristics.
  • replacing it by selecting another tool assembly that is present in the machining cell.
  • replacing it by selecting another tool assembly from a file.
  • replacing it by selecting another tool assembly from database.


Before you begin: You must have a Activities Process tree open with at least one turning Machining Operation in the Manufacturing Program.
  1. Double-click a turning operation in the Activities Process tree.

    The Machining Operation dialog box appears. Select the Tool Assembly tab in the Tooling tab .

  2. Select another tool assembly present in the machining cell.

    1. Select the [...] button opposite Assembly. The Search Tool Assembly dialog box appears.

    2. Select the desired tool assembly from the list of tool assemblies.
  3. Select another tool assembly from a file:
    1. Click Select a tool assembly from in file or a catalog .
      The Search Tool Assembly dialog box appears.
    2. Specify the place in the Look in list, where you want to search for the tool: in the current document or in a .csv tool catalog.
    3. Click the icon corresponding to the type of tool you are looking for.
      All the tools of this type are displayed in the dialog box.
    4. Select Simple tab and specify character string on the tool assembly name to do a quick search.

      The tool assemblies meeting the simple search criteria are listed.

    5. Select the desired tool assembly from the list and click OK.
    6. or Select Advanced tab to search a tool assembly based on Attribute, Condition, and Value search criteria.
      The example below shows the result of a search for a tool assembly whose tool has a nominal diameter equal to 10mm.
  4. To select another tool assembly from database:
    1. Click Select a Tool Assembly from Database .
    2. Enter a search criteria in the search bar of the Top Bar.

      Advanced Search gives access to more extensive search criteria.

    3. In the search results, select the desired tool assembly and click OK.
  5. Optional: Change the Tool number.
  6. Optional: Enter a new value for the Setup angle.
  7. Modify the tool assembly Geometry and Technology parameter values as desired.
  8. Click OK to confirm using the modified tool assembly in the Machining Operation.
