Calculating Energy Expenditure

You can estimate worker energy consumption in kilocalorie (Kcal) for a given task. The prediction model uses different equations for some operations depending on whether they perform using one arm or both arms. Before invoking the Energy Expenditure, you must update the cycle time with the Play.

Using the Energy Expenditure

This describes how to use Energy Expenditure.

  1. Click Single Task Energy Expenditure Calculation .
  2. Click a Human task.
    The Energy Expenditure Automatic Configuration progress monitor appears, then the Energy Expenditure Results window appears.
  3. Click OK in the Get Activity Warning window.
    The Information displays: Load(s) picked by the manikin will not be taken into account in Energy Expenditure results if the related Pick activity(ies) is(are) not part of the analyzed Human Task.
  4. Click OK, Close after reviewing the results in Energy Expenditure.
    The Energy Expenditure dialog box appears. It displays the last analyzed action in the Action Input tab and the automatically generated list of all actions in the Action List tab.

    The system automatically analyzes each activity under the task and from the data and calculates the correct energy expenditure parameters.

    Note: The starting and ending operations automatically enter. These can also change.

    The From Operation and the To Operation must both belong to the same action list to work.

  5. Place your cursor in the From Operation field, the field activates and turns blue. Choose the activity from the Action List tab for the starting point of the job you want to analyze.
  6. Place your cursor in the To Operation field, the field activates and turns blue. Choose the activity from the Action List tab that is the ending point of the job to analyze.
  7. In the Title field name, select the current selection.
    We entered the Reaching Engine. Use this title later to identify those activities entered for the parameters.
  8. Select Input Kcal Parameters .
    The Parameters for Energy Expenditure dialog box appears.

  9. Click OK after the parameters are entered.

    The Energy Expenditure Results window appears to report the results for the selected task.

    Use this report to review the parameters from this command. Any of the parameters can be modified in the Action List tab.

Energy Expenditure for a Human Task with a Get/Reach Activity

Selecting a Get activity the from Operation activity, the dialog box appears with an extra Enter Mass: Field. You can use this field to enter the mass of the object that carries in the Get activity.

  1. Create a Get Activity and a walk activity.
  2. Follow the procedures for Using the Energy Expenditure.
  3. Select the Grasp in the Action List tab.

    The Energy Expenditure analysis automatically takes the weight of the picked object (specified at the time of creating the get activity).

  4. Select Input Kcal Parameters to input the parameters.
  5. Click Refresh.
    The look of the new energy expenditure results.
