Creating a Motion Trace Probe

You can use simulation trace to trace the movement of objects in a simulation.

  1. Click Motion Trace .
  2. Select the object for which you wish to create the trace.
    The Robot attaches itself to the base location of the object.

    Note: The offset Robot options appear as a context toolbar. You can choose to define an offset from the origin to trace, or delete any previously created offset and revert back to tracing the origin. This context toolbar disappears when you move the cursor away.

    A stamp containing a snapshot of the selected product/resource with its origin point highlight is created in the Probes panel.

  3. To define an offset, click Define Offset for the dialog box.

  4. Make changes as desired to change the previously created point from the default origin to this new point, click OK.
    The context toolbar appears again so that you may modify the offset again. Move the cursor away to hide the toolbar.
  5. Right-click the thumbnail to select a context command.

  6. Click Play in the Compass, and select the track that moves the previously selected part with motion trace.
    The trace appears.
    Note: The default color of the line is controlled by the Motion Trace tab on the Me > Preferences > Infrastructure > DELMIA Infrastructure tab or use Properties from the context menu to change the graphic representations.

    In the following illustration, the motion trace is green and the track is blue:

  7. Run the pointer over the trace.
    Data about the trace appears. The default data are:

    • The length from the starting point;
    • The time elapsed in the simulation when the simulation is at that point;
    • The name of the point.

    To select additional data, select the Motion Trace tab from Me > Preferences > Infrastructure > DELMIA Infrastructure or right-click the point and select Properties .

Notes: You can right-click on the thumbnail and select Deactivate to keep the trace from appearing when you click Play.

For additional information on the commands available when you right-click on the thumbnail, see Motion Trace Commands.
