Managing AGV Trains

AGV trains pull carts that receive loads. They have the highest capacity among AGV types for material transport, and considerably more than traditional forklift trucks.

Define an AGV Train

Before you begin: Instantiate an AGV by clicking Instantiate Mobile Resource in the Setup section of the action bar.
  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Manage Trains .
    The Manage Trains dialog box displays.

  2. Click .
    The Edit Train panel displays.

  3. In the Edit Train panel:

    • Click next to Leader and select the train leader.
    • Define the value for the space between the train and its followers in the Engage Space field.
    • Define the time interval between two AGV routes in the Frequency field.
    • Check the Leader Accepts Products option if the train leader accepts parts during the simulation.
    • Click next to Train Pool.The Assign Train Pool dialog box displays.

      Either:

      • Assign the train to an existing pool
      • Create a new pool by clicking in the Assign Train Pool dialog box, and clicking OK to validate.

  4. In the Followers section of the Edit Train panel, click and select the AGVs to edit the train followers.

    Note: You can reposition the train by clicking .

  5. Click OK to validate.
    The created AGV train displays in the Manage Trains dialog box.

Define a Transport Route

  1. From the Programming section of the action bar, click Transport Route Definition.
    The Manage Transport route group panel displays.

  2. Click .
    The Edit Transport Route Group panel displays.

  3. Define the following information:

    • Name: the name of the group
    • Priority: if multiple routes are assigned to an AGV train resource pool, the train selects the route based on the defined priority order
    • Frequency: the number of times a route is executed before moving to the next route.

  4. In the Destinations section of the panel, assign all the destination decision zons of the route.

    Notes:
    • The Engage Mode field lets you specify the engagement mode (None, Engage, Disengage) for a train leader at a destination decision zone. You can select an activity to perform the action in the Activity Name field.
    • The Number Of Followers field lets you specify the number of followers to engage or disengage at a destination decision zone.
    • The From Zone field lets you define the decision zone from the followers are engaged.

  5. In the Parking Zone section of the panel, assign the parking decision zone in which to park the train after the current route is completed.
  6. Click OK to validate.
    The Manage Transport route group panel displays.
  7. Select the transport route group, then click Assign Pool to assign the resource pool to which this route applies.
    The assigned ressource pool displays in the Resource Pool field.
  8. Optional: You can edit or delete a transport route group by selecting it, and clicking or .
  9. Optional: You can edit the depart conditions for a route's destination decision zones by selecting a route and clicking Edit Depart Requirement in its context menu.
