Creating an Advanced Finishing Operation

You can create an Advanced Finishing operation, i.e. a machining operation dedicated to machining grooves in one shot: The vertical area will be machined with ZLevel passes while the horizontal area will be machined with contour-driven passes.

Machine a Complete Part

You can machine a complete part directly.

  1. From the Surface Machining section of the action bar, click Advanced Finishing .
    An Advanced Finishing entity is added to the manufacturing program. The Advanced Finishing dialog box opens at the Geometry tab .
  2. Still in the Geometry tab:
    1. Click the red area representing the part to machine. The dialog box disappears.
    2. Select a part.
    3. Double-click anywhere in the work area to validate the selection and revert to the dialog box.
      The red area has turned green.
  3. Click Limiting Contour and select a limiting contour as follows:

  4. Select the Tool tab to choose a tool.
  5. Click Display or Simulate to check the validity of the machining operation.
    • The tool path is computed.
    • A progress indicator is displayed.
    • You can cancel the tool path computation at any moment before 100% completion.


    Note: The zones are always machined in the same order: All vertical zones first, then the horizontal zones.

Machine a Rework Area

You can create a rework area to be machined with Advanced Finishing.

  1. Create a Rework Area.
    You can see an horizontal zone in blue, with a vertical zone in it.

  2. Still in the Rework Area dialog box, select the Operations tab and assign an Advanced Finishing operation to the horizontal zone.
  3. From the Surface Machining section of the action bar, click Advanced Finishing .
    The Advanced Finishing dialog box is displayed.
  4. In the Geometry tab, select the rework area you have created as the Feature.

    Note: The sensitive icon has changed.

  5. Select the Machining Strategy tab:
    1. Set the Machining parameters:

      • Machining tolerance to 0.1mm
      • Cutting mode to Climb

    2. Set the Zone parameters, e.g.

      • Max. horizontal slope to 45deg
      • Distance between pass in Vertical Zone to 5mm
      • Distance between pass in Horizontal Zone to 2mm

  6. Select the Tool tab to choose a tool.
  7. Click Display or Simulate to check the validity of the machining operation.
    1. Click OK in the Display or Simulate dialog box, and again in the main dialog box to create the machining operation.
    The tool path is computed.
