Creating a Wire EDM Profiling Operation

You can create a wire EDM profiling operation.


Before you begin: Create a wire EDM machine and select a wired EDM tool.

  1. From the Wire EDM section of the action bar, click Wire Profile .

    The Wire Profile workflow appears in the work area.

  2. In the Tool Search dialog box that appears:
    1. Select the tool type.
    2. Select the required tool or tool assembly and click one of the following:
    OptionDescription
    Select in Session Select an existing tool or tool assembly from the Resource Configuration View.
    Search in Database Select a tool or a tool assembly from the database.
    Look Into Catalog Browse for a tool or a tool assembly in the catalog.
  3. Optional: Close the Tool Search dialog box by pressing Esc. Then, click Search Tool to research a tool in the database.
  4. Follow the workflow instructions to create a wire profile operation.

    A Wire EDM Profile entity is added to the Manufacturing Program.

    The Wire Profile dialog box appears directly in the Geometry tab.

  5. Click in the title bar of the dialog box to edit the name of the machining operation, such as WireProfile.x.
  6. Optional: Select a feature by doing one of the following:
    • Select to select a wire EDM feature from the Manufacturing View.
    • Select to create a new wire EDM feature.
    • Select to select all created wire EDM features.
    • Select to remove a wire EDM feature from the selection.
    • Select to edit a wire EDM feature.
  7. Verify the geometry parameters.

    Note: The following icons are used to describe the status of a parameter:
    Icon Description
    Parameter defined.
    Mandatory parameter not defined.
    Optional parameter not defined.
    Parameter not up to date.
    Broken link.

  8. Select the Resource tab and verify the tool parameters.
  9. Select the Strategy tab and verify the parameters in the sub-tabs: Machining , Main, Finishing , Separation , Corners , and Axis Strategy .

    Note: Main, Finishing and Separation sub tabs are only available when the Manual mode is set during machine creation.

  10. Optional: Do any of the following:
    1. Click to remove the input parameter.
    2. Click to display additional information on the parameter in the work area.
    3. Click to display the context menu.
  11. Select the Macros tab and verify the macro parameters.
  12. Click Compute to compute the tool path with the specified parameters.
  13. Click OK to validate and exit the dialog box.
  14. Click Cancel to exit the dialog box without saving.

The wire profile operation is created as WireProfile.x. It is visible in the Manufacturing View.
