ABB RRS Servers

The ABB_S4C__3.XX RRS interface supports the ABB S4C 3.X, S4CPlus 4.X and IRC5.X RCS modules. This task describes how to install each of these servers.

Installing the ABB S4C 3.X RRS Server

This task describes the steps required to install the ABB S4C 3.X RRS Server.

  1. Create the following directories anywhere on the RRS server:

    • ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin
    • ABB_S4C__3.XX/data

  2. Copy all of the RRS module files obtained from ABB into the ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin folder.
  3. Change directories (cd) into the ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin directory and bring up the DELMIA ABB_S4C__3.XX RRS server.
  4. Inside the RRS$LIB/rrs.servers file, add a DELMIA RRS server entry of the following form:
    <DELMIA_RRS_Server_Name> ABB_S4C__3.XX SOCKET <DELMIA_RRS_Server_Machine> <DELMIA_RRS_Server_TCP_Port_Number>

    For example: ABB_S4C_3.XX_Server1 ABB_S4C__3.XX SOCKET RRSsrvr 3500

Installing the ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS Server

This task describes the steps required to install the ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS Server.

The ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS module is internally architected based on a client-server model. The server-side of the ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS module (also referred to as the ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS server) runs on Windows. The client-side is available on Windows and several UNIX platforms.

  1. Create the following directories on the Windows machine that serves as the DELMIA ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X RRS server:

    • ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin
    • ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/data

  2. Copy all ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS client-side components (including the DELMIA ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X RRS server executables) obtained from ABB into the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin directory.
  3. Use a text editor to insert the IP address of the RRS Server Windows machine in a file named RRSaddr.txt, and save it in the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin directory.
  4. Change directories into the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin directory and bring up the DELMIA ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X RRS server.

    Note: Steps 5-8 are performed on the ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS Server.

  5. If not already done, in the DELMIA ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X RRS server installation step above, i.e., when a UNIX version of the DELMIA RRS server is being used, create the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin and ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/data subfolders under any (RRS Home Directory) folder.
  6. Install the ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS module in the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin folder using the formal RRS module installation procedure provided by ABB.
  7. Run the FlexLM license manager: Note that there are several licensing options and the exact procedure to follow at this step changes depending on the option. Please consult ABB for details. But as an example, if you have received a license file from ABB that has a DAEMON line:

    • Copy this license file into the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin folder
    • From a Windows command shell, change directories into the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin folder and type:

      .\lmgrd -c <full_path_of_license_file> -app

  8. Run the ABB S4CPlus 4.X RRS server: Inside a Windows command shell "cd" into the ABB_S4CPLUS__4.X/ABB_S4C__3.XX/bin folder and type:

    .\RRSserv

  9. On the DELMIA RRS product machine, add a DELMIA RRS server entry inside the RRS$LIB/RRS.servers file that reads:

    <DELMIA_RRS_Server_Name> ABB_S4C__3.XX SOCKET <DELMIA_RRS_Server_Machine> <DELMIA_RRS_Server_TCP_Port_Number>

    For example: ABB_S4CPLUS_4.X_Server1 ABB_S4C__3.XX SOCKET gulliver 4200

Installing the ABB IRC 5.X RRS Server

This task describes the steps required to install the ABB IRC 5.X RRS Server.

  1. Create the following directories on the RCS server machine under some arbitrary folder (referred to below as <RCS_ROOT>):

    • <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX
    • <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\data

  2. You should have the following ZIP files from ABB:

    • rcsabb_rw5_...common.igrip.zip (e.g. rcsabb_rw5_0.common.igrip.zip)
    • rcsabb_rw5...irc5.zip (e.g. rscabb_rw5.12.01.irc5.zip)

    Open rcsabb_rw5...irc5.zip and extract its complete contents, using folder names, to the folder <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX.

  3. Change the name of the new folder created under <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX from rcsabb_rw5... to bin.
  4. Open rcsabb_rw5._...common.igrip.zip and extract its contents, not using folder names, to the folder <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin.
  5. Copy IRC5 RCS license file received from ABB to <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin.
  6. Edit the file <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin\rcsabb_lmgrd_sample_start.bat using a text editor and replace "<license_file>" with the full path of the license file copied in Step 5.
  7. (Optional) You can change the TCP port number at which the Delmia ABB IRC5 RCS server will be listening for RRS connection requests by editing the "-tcp 4600" option in the file <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin\start_igrip_rcs_client_sample.bat. If you edit this option, please make sure that the the IRC5 RCS server entry in the D5/V5/V6 rcs.servers/rrs.servers files uses the same TCP port number.

Running the ABB IRC5 RCS Server

This task describes the steps required to run the ABB IRC5 RCS server.

On the RCS server machine, perform the following steps in three different Windows command shells (note that these must be left running after invoking the commands below):

  1. In Windows command shell #1:

    1. cd to <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin
    2. .\rcsabb_ lmgrd_sample_start

  2. In Windows command shell #2:

    1. cd to <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin
    2. .\rcsabb_ rcsserv_sample_start

  3. In Windows command shell #3:

    1. cd to <RCS_ROOT>\ABB_IRC5\ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin
    2. .\start_igrip_rcs_client_sample

Single ABB RRS Server Servicing Multiple ABB RCS Module Versions

A single DELMIA ABB RRS server can service multiple versions of the same ABB RCS module family.

  1. Create new sub-folders containing RCS module version-specific files under the ABB RRS Server’s ABB_S4C__3.XX\bin folder.



  2. In the DELMIA product’s rrs.servers file, change the third field of the ABB RRS Server lines from “SOCKET” to the name of one of the sub-folders created in Step 1.
