Assigning Persons to the Private Discussion Association

As delivered, the only users who can access private discussions are those who are employees of the host organization who have access to the parent object of the discussion. If you need to grant access to external users, such as suppliers who may need to access discussions about engineering designs, you can add those users to the Private Discussion association.

To assign an external user to the Private Discussion association, use MQL. for more information, see MQL Command Reference: association Command.

This association does not grant the external user access to all private discussions, only those where the parent object of the discussion is connected to that user's organization using the Design Responsibility relationship. All three of these conditions must be met for an external user to have access to a private message:

  • Must be a member of the Private Discussion association
  • Must have access to the parent object of the discussion
  • User's organization must be connected to the parent object using the Design Responsibility relationship

If any of these conditions are false, then that external user cannot access the private message.
