About Sketching Simple Profiles

When you are sketching simple profiles, their dimension values such as length, radius and relative angle are displayed in the work area along with the geometry.

Some considerations about the display of dimensions:

  • The dimensions are displayed only during the creation phase of the sketch.
  • The value is updated at every change of the pointer.
  • The display of the unit symbol depends on the settings defined in Me > Preferences > Main Preferences > Modeling > Knowledge Units > Units and dimensions display > Units. Settings for the exponential value are also considered.
  • The display of dimension value is limited only up to two decimal places after the decimal point.
  • The position of the text can be above or below the line or arc, and depends on the orientation of the sketch’s view.
  • If the spacing is inadequate due to sketch's orientation, the dimension values are not displayed.

Following simple sketch commands support display of dimension values:

  1. Length values:
    • Line

Without Symmetrical extension With Symmetrical extension

      Notes:
      • Length value appears only when defining the end point of a line.
      • If you use Symmetrical extension , half-length value appears, denoting the first part of the line.
    • Line normal to curve

    • Profile

      Both consecutive lines

      With tangent arc

      Line after circle

    • Axis

    • Rectangle

Note: For rectangles, length value appears for width and height of the profile.
  2. Radius values:
    • Circle

    • Three point circle
    • Three point arc

    • Three point arc starting with limits

    • Arc

    • Ellipse

      First RadiusSecond radius

    Notes:
    • Radius value appears only when defining the radius of a circle, including the major and minor radii.
    • For hexagons, radius value of only the implicit circle appears.
  3. Relative angle values: Profile
    Notes:
    • Relative angle value appears when you are defining a line consecutively to another line of the profile.
    • For parallelograms, angle value appears between both sides of a parallelogram.
