Installing Derived Format Converter

You can install Derived Format Converter using the following procedure.

Install on On-Premise Environment

This task explains how to install the Derived Format Converter client on on-premise environment.

  1. Run the setup.exe for Windows from the EENOVIADerivedFormatConverter.Windows64 build package.
  2. Click Next.
    The Choose the installation directory box appears.
  3. Click Browse to specify the installation path and click Next.
    By default, the path is <OSInstallDrive>\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\<Release_Level>DerivedFormatConverter>. You can change this default path.
  4. Verify the information and click Install.
  5. Click Close to confirm the completion of installation.

    Derived Format Converter is installed and the 3DEXPERIENCE icon appears in the notification area. A windows service is created with a name "3DEXPERIENCE <release-version> Derived Format Service". This service manages the automated execution of derived format generation. The tooltip on the 3DEXPERIENCE icon for Derived Format Launcher in the notification area shows the status as Not Connected.

Install on Cloud Environment

This task explains how to install the Derived Format Converter client on cloud environment.

  1. From the Compass, search and select Derived Format Converter.
    3DEXPERIENCE Launcher opens.
  2. Click Install Now.
  3. Click Install All Roles Containing Derived Format Converter.
  4. Click Next.
    The Choose the installation directory box appears.
  5. Click Browse to specify the installation path and click Next.
    By default, the path is <OSInstallDrive>\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B423DerivedFormatConverter>. You can change this default path.
  6. Verify the information and click Install.

Derived Format Converter is installed and the 3DEXPERIENCE icon appears in the notification area. A windows service is created with a name "3DEXPERIENCE <release-version> Derived Format Service". Notes:
  • Derived Format Converter is supported only on Windows.
  • The installation size of Derived Format Converter is approximately 7GB.
  • Asynchronous conversion is based on the conversion jobs that run on the client machine.
Tip: You can generate the derived outputs based on the geographical site by defining the SiteID environment variable in the Env.txt file of the Derived Format Converter client application.

In a multi-site environment, having multiple deployments of the Derived Format Converter application, you can configure converter instances to process the derived output jobs of particular sites. This can be achieved by defining the SiteID=<SiteName> variable in the Env.txt of the application. The derived output job will store the site information of input data on which derived output is requested and will be processed by the converter instance configured for that site specifically. This reduces the network load on remote FCS. If the SiteID property is not defined, the converter will process the jobs irrespective of their origin site.

Warning: For a single site environment, you must not define the SiteID. It may lead to derived output jobs been left unprocessed.
