Creating Security Classes

You can create an IP Control Class or a Security Control Class from a security library that is in the Active state.

Important:
  • The number of IP Security Classes in the system impacts the performance of operations. It is recommended to only have classes that are used. Demote any unused IP Security classes to the Inactive state, or delete unused classes.
  • The number of IP Security Classes should not exceed 200.

Required access role: Leader

Before you begin: Open a security library in the Active state. For more information, see Opening an IP Protection Library.

  2. From the Actions menu, click Create IP Control Class or Create Security Class.
  3. Enter the following information:

    Field Description
    Type The type of class.
Title Enter the title for the class.
Description Describe the class. Make reference to any URLs, policies, procedures, or government standards that define the rules for the management of this class.
    Restrict Locations for Exceptions

Select or clear the check box.

If selected, the restrictions of any location security rules associated to the class will be applicable above the authorization by any exceptions for that class. However, if the exception granting access to a user already contains any location-specific restriction, the location security rules associated to the class are not considered.

If cleared, then authorization is directly by the exception with no check of any location security rules on the class. In this case, any location-specific restriction should be defined directly on the exception.

For more information, see Countries/Locations of the exceptions.
