Creating Component Requests

A Component Request Engineer and a Supplier Item Manager can create a component request.


Before you begin: A request template must be in the Released state.

Creating Request Templates
  1. To create a component request, do one of the following:

    Context Actions
    Home Page Click New Component Request.
    Component Request Page Click New Request on the page toolbar.

  2. From the Request Category, select Component Introduction Request, Component Modification Request, or Source Change Notification.
    All component categories of the selected type with a released request template display on the next step.
  3. From the Component Category, select the component categories that were configured from the released request template with the same request category that was selected in the previous step. Click Skip to skip the Component Category step.
  4. Enter the Request Details:

    Fields Description
    Title Enter the required title for the component request.
    Request Category The request category selected for the component request:
    • Component Modification Request
    • Source Change Notification
    • Component Introduction Request
    .
    Request Template The request workflow and approval process are created based on the selected request template. Using type-ahead, click inside this field to select the request template or click to select the request template from 3DSearch. The request template must be in the Released maturity state. All available request templates display. Click to clear the text.
    Description The description of the component request.
    Input Items You can select the available engineering items, manufacturer equivalent items, and component requests. You can enter the name of the input item and select the suggested object using type-ahead, drag an input item and drop it in the blue-highlighted drop zone, or click to search for an input item.
    Note: Enter at least 3 characters using type ahead.

    Important: If creating a component request from an existing component request that will be added as an answer item, only input items from the parent component request are listed. You must select the input items from the parent component request.

    Note: All existing input items display, except those in the Obsolete state.
    Click to remove a single item or click Clear All to deselect all selected items.
    Due Date Click inside this field to select the date the component request is due.
    Context Project To connect the component request to a project, select an available Project Space project or Project created from the Project Planning app or enter the context project name. Type-ahead and free text entry are supported. Only one context project can be added for a given component request.
    Note: All context projects display, except those in the Completed or Archived state.
    Context Product To connect the component request to a product, select an available Model or Engineering type product. Type-ahead is supported. Only one context product can be added for a given component request.
    Note: All context products display, except those in the Inactive or Obsolete state.
    Context Plant To connect the component request to a plant, select an available Active Plant. Type-ahead is supported. Only one context plant can be added for a given component request.
    Note: All context plants display, except those in the Inactive state.
    Additional Information
    Note: The request category attributes display for Component Introduction Request and Component Modification Request.
    Development Reason Enter the reason for the development.
    Development Plan Date Click inside this field to select the planned date for the development.
    Production Plan Date Click inside this field to select the planned date for production.
    Additional Information
    Note: The request category attributes display for Source Change Notification.
    Notification Number Enter the change number.
    Notification Issue Date Enter the date for the change issue.
    Notification Description The notification details.
    Change Effective Date The date the change is effective.
    Last Buy Date The last date to buy.
    Manufacturer/Suppliers Contact Enter the contact information for the manufacturer or supplier.
    Source-1 The source information attributes are populated based on the Source attribute in the request template. You can edit the request template to configure the source type information. For more information on configuring the source type, see Request Template Properties.
    Important: If the source type is not configured in the request template, the source information section is not added to the wizard, and you cannot add source information.
    By default, one sourcing section displays for the component request. You can add up to five sourcing sections.
    • To delete the source, click .
    • Hover over or click to display drag and drop manufacturer item details using PartSupply. The entire Source section is highlighted with a blue dotted line to indicate the drop area.
    Click to collapse the Source fields. Click to expand the sourcing section. The following sourcing attributes display on the component request.

    You can drag a manufacturer item from PartSupply and drop it onto the Source section to populate the sourcing fields. One sourcing section must exist in order to drop a manufacturer item. You can also manually enter the sourcing information. For more information on PartSupply Components, see Using PartSupply Components.

    Source Type The source information section is populated based on the source type configured in the selected request template. Click to select a subtype.
    Note: If a source type is not configured in the selected request template, the source information section does not display and you cannot add source information.

    Component Request Source Manufacturer To search for and select the required manufacturer from Supply Network Management, click . For more information, see Searching for Manufacturers. The manufacturer is required for the source information to be available on the component request.
    Note: All active companies display.
    Manufacturer Part Number Enter a series of numbers and/or letters given to a part by the manufacturer. The manufacturer part number identifies the part as belonging to and originating from one manufacturer. Each part the manufacturer makes has a different manufacturer part number.
    Part Source Enter the source of the component. The part source is required for the source information to be available on the component request.
    Part Source URL Enter the URL for the part source.
    Attachments To add attachments to the component request, enter the attachment name using type-ahead or drag an attachment from 3DSearch or another app and drop it into the Attachments drop zone. You can also click to search for existing documents.
    Note: A blue dotted line displays around the Attachments field to indicate the drop area.
    Source Change Notification Notification Description Enter the description for the notification.
    Change Effective Date Click inside this field to select the date the change is effective.
    Equivalent Alternate Product Enter the equivalent alternate product.
    Last Buy Date Click inside this field to select the last buy date.
    Last Ship Date Click inside this field to select the last ship date.
    Manufacturer To search for and select the required manufacturer from Supply Network Management, click . For more information, see Searching for Manufacturers. The manufacturer is required for the source information to be available on the component request.
    Note: All active companies display.

    Attachments To add attachments to the component request, enter the attachment name using type-ahead or drag an attachment from 3DSearch or another app and drop it into the Attachments drop zone. You can also click to search for existing documents.
    Note: A blue dotted line displays around the Attachments field to indicate the drop area.
    Click to clear the text.
    Add another source Click to add another source section.

  5. Click Next.
  6. To add or remove a specification or attachment to or from the new component request, click Attachments. Select one of the following:
    • Add > Add Specification > Upload
    • Add > Add Specification > Add Existing
    • Add > Add Specification > From Request
    • Add > Add Attachments > Upload
    • Add > Add Attachments > Add Existing
    • Add > Add Attachments > From Request
    • To remove a document, click Remove.
      Tip: You can also click > Remove from the tile.

    You can add one specification document and multiple attachments.

    Note: If creating a component request from an existing component request that will be added as an answer item, you must select the attachments from the parent component request.

    Documents added in this step are added to the component request when the component request is created and listed in the Summary tab of the New Component Request wizard. The documents are listed under the Attachments tab of the component request.
  7. Click Review.
  8. The sources added on the Request Details tab display on the Summary tab under Additional Information. From the Summary, you can create the component request in one of the following ways:

    • Click Save as Draft to create the request in the In Draft state. Use this option if you are still working on the request.
    • Click Submit to create the component request in the Under Review state.

Depending on how the component request is created, the component request is in the In Draft state or Submitted state and a confirmation message displays. The details added on the Request Details tab display in the component request properties.
