Managing Content Lifecycles

Depending on your access, you can promote or demote source objects (that is, document maps, topics, images, data frames, or image frames) or published documents between maturity states according to their defined lifecycles.

Promote an Object

  1. Do one of the following:
    • From the Home Page, click for the object to promote.
    • From the Document Editor, click for the object to promote.
  2. Select Maturity State and choose the appropriate promotion.
    • Set to 'Frozen'
    • Set to 'Released'

    • Set to 'Obsolete'
  3. Confirm the promotion.

The object's state updates according to your selection and the information in the Content View reports the updated Maturity.

Release an Object

When you release a data topic, you must review and verify any changes to the content made in Structured Document Editor. When you release other objects, you must confirm their release.

  1. Open the object you want to release.
  2. Click , select Maturity State and then Set to 'Released'.
  3. Optional: For data topics:
    1. In the Verify & Release dialog box, review the changes to the imported content and the Traceability table.

      Tip: To compare different edits to the data topic, select the saved versions of the content from the lists above the revisions.


    2. Click Verify & Release to approve any changes and release the data topic.

  4. Optional: For other objects, click Release to confirm their release.

The object's maturity state changes to released.

Demote an Object

  1. Do one of the following:
    • From the Home Page, click for the object to demote.
    • From the Document Editor, click for the object to demote.
  2. Select Maturity State and choose the appropriate demotion.
    • Set to 'In Work'
    • Set to 'Released'
  3. Confirm the demotion.

The object's state updates according to your selection and the information in the Content View reports the updated Maturity.
