Working with Revisions

You can create new revisions of released or obsolete source objects, such as, document maps, topics, images, data frames, or image frames.

Create a New Revision

You can create new revisions of source objects in the Released or Obsolete maturity states that do not already have later revisions.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • In a content view, select the required object and click .
    • In a map, for the required object, click .
  2. Click New Revision.
  3. In the confirmation dialog box, click New Revision.

The new revision has the In Work maturity state and the previous revision remains unchanged. For more information, see About Content Lifecycles.

Release a New Revision

You can manage the maturity state of a new revision in the usual way.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • From the Home Page, click for the source object to release.
    • From the Document Editor, click for the source object to release.
  2. Select Maturity State and choose Set to 'Released'.
  3. Confirm the promotion.

The latest revision has the Released maturity state. The previous revision automatically moves to the Obsolete maturity state. Any references to the source object automatically update to use the latest released revision.

Select a Referenced Revision

You can choose to explicitly reference a particular revision of an image or content reference in a topic or of a topic in a map.

  1. For the object whose revision you want to select, click and select Select Revision.
  2. In the Select a Revision dialog box, choose the revision you want to include and click Ok.

The reference in the topic or map explicitly uses the revision you selected.
