Unlocking Maps and Topics

You can unlock documents maps or topics that you or another user are editing to allow other users to make changes, depending on your access role. Only Leaders and Repository Managers can release the lock on documents being editing by another user.


Before you begin: To prevent potential clashes between edits made by multiple users, contact the user making edits before unlocking a document map or topic. Only unlock an item if the user making edits cannot save their changes and release the document map or topic for other users themselves.

  1. From the home page, locate the locked document map or topic in a content list.
  2. Place the cursor over the to view the tooltip reporting the user editing the item.
  3. Click and select Unlock.
  4. Confirm that you want to unlock the item, click OK.

The lock on the document map or topic is released, other users can now make edits. Any changes made by the user previously making edits remain in their view of the document map or topic, but their changes are not saved or available to other users. If the user previously making edits logs out or refreshes Structured Document Editor, their changes are lost.
