High Availability with a Small Index

The following examples show how to get search high availability by adding at least one secondary server housing a search server and index. We assume that the index is small enough to reside on a single host machine.

Alternative Deployment

Context: In this example, we only reach partial high availability. There is no search redundancy as there is only one search server, and no load balancing of user queries. There is, however, a certain degree of high availability for the index, allowing query processing to continue even if the index on the secondary server is not available.

Important: Use this scenario when no load balancers are available.
Deployment without load balancers. For a deployment like this, once the secondary server index is unavailable, the primary server index handles all queries and the index processing.

  1. Install Exalead CloudView as a primary server (single-host) installation.

    For more information, see Installing Exalead CloudView.

  2. In the Administration Console, add a secondary server.

    For more information, see Add Hosts.

  3. Configure this secondary server as a combined search and index server.

    For more information, see Configure Roles.

  4. Click Apply.
  5. Restart Exalead CloudView on the primary server.

    For more information, see Restart Exalead CloudView on Hosts.

  6. Install Exalead CloudView as a secondary server installation for each secondary server.

  7. Start Exalead CloudView on the secondary server.
  8. Verify index high-availability.
